Well, hello there! I know it's been awhile since my last post- my trip to the south was wonderful, relaxing, and has set me back about a week and a half! Eventually I will get caught up again...right? Sure, sure I will. But for now I have two new pieces to share and a sale to tell you about! :)

Take heed- a new monster! This one is a kitteh!!!!! I know, not exactly monster like in appearance, per se, but kitties can be quite monstrous in behavior and action... The name of this piece is "Star Kitty"- a bright beacon of cuteness in the vast

Hopefully, I will have the wherewithal to post some work in progress photos. I am finding myself wondering, again, why I always bite off more than I can chew. Well hi!

So...I have three brand new pieces! I know, right after I say I am going to slow my creative process for Darkling Treasures ;| I just needed some good ART time, so I X-ed out all of Tuesday and just MADE STUFF. This stuff is mad lowbrow and adorable, plus I finished up one of my pin up paintings!
All three of these new pieces are listed for auction- on my Darkling Treasures Facebook Page! This is because I am going out of town for most of next week, and will have much more control over my auctions this way. So, let me show off the new art, then:

"Bookish" is the pin up painting I recently finished up- I really like how she turned out! She is an art nouveau inspired acrylic painting, 5" x 7" on a canvas panel. Now, this little monster is named "Mish"- he is a hybrid jellyfish-bird-rabbit, and he is very sentimental to me, so I am kind of having a hard time putting him up for sale. FYI. These three Facebook auctions will run until Friday, February 24th at 11pm EST. I will be home then to end them and get them sent out to their new homes, should they find them :)

This leads me into ordering information for the next week...I will be visiting family in Georgia from 2-19 to 2-23, and will be away from my studio/stockpiles/printer/stamps and envelopes...thus unable to ship anything out until my return. For current outstanding orders: all eBay auctions (I believe) will end before I leave, so if you win something(s) and would like me to ship out your art before I go, payments MUST be made by, mmm, like 8pm EST this Saturday! This way I can get everything packaged and drop them in a mailbox on my way to the airport. Both of my etsy shops will go into vacation mode on Saturday evening until I return, and the listings wont show up. As for my website, orders will be filled and shipped upon my return. I should be around a computer on and off during my trip, so I will be able to check in, possibly answer emails, maybe post some stuff...But mostly I will be on break.

So...Here are the VERY IMPORTANT THINGS YOU SHOULD READ :)

As you may or may not have noticed, I've been a little quieter than usual lately. This is not actually the case, I have actually been very loud all over the place, just not so much here in 'fantasyland'. My focus seems to be shifting a great deal in another direction, which I kind of saw coming awhile back, and perhaps a few of you also saw. I am crazily switching gears in my art life, and am going to be putting a lot more time into the comic side of things. I cannot deny the muses, and they are really *not* subtle when they want something.

So, I will be spending a good portion of my studio time working on my zombietoes creations and my Dorkling comic and sub-projects (yeah there's a lot going on). Cartoons make me happy, and I am *disgustingly productive* when I am happy, and that makes me happier. It's a viciously happy cycle. (gross). I am totally being selfish in this, I will admit it, but hopefully it is not without its entertainment.

For those of you concerned about what is going to happen with my fantasy art and Darkling Treasures, fret not! I will still be making time to create new snapshots of my crazy inner worlds and stories :) I am scaling back, however, and likely will not be producing more than 4 new originals a month. All eBay auctions will 100% continue as normal, but you can expect some streamlining of my etsy shops. Nothing major. I am still working on the website *sigh*. I have decided that there is just far too much art to deal with, so I will be retiring a bunch of pieces from print. I have not decided on which ones yet, so if there are ones you'd like to see stay, you are more than welcome to email me and let me know! The input would be nice :)

Hi Hi!

Another short-ish post this week...still trying to finagle my schedule to a more suitable timeline. The more work I put into streamlining, the more I realize that I need to stop biting off more than I can chew. This is a recurring problem in my life. :\

ANYHOO...I have a brand new art nouveau painting for you this week, plus an older original painting listed at a very reasonable price on eBay! I also have news on recent commission work!

So, onto art then! I have a brand new pretty lady to share! "Soft" is an original art nouveau pin up painting- a pretty blond thing, in blue (I love the color combo in this piece!). I have also listed my original "Suite" jester painting on eBay, with a half price starting bid! This is one of my larger pieces- 16" x 20" (acrylics on gallery wrapped canvas). This is one of my favorite images, and I have reworked it numerous times in pencil and pen over the years. A similar version of this piece was used for the cover art of my "Emrotica" zine (volume 2). This past autumn, I was working on a LOT of commission pieces- many for the "Zombie Soup" book by Dennis Armstrong, but also two for another book! "Strangeworlds" is a fantasy novel written by Donald Saxman- it is based from an RPG he and some others designed years ago. I should not say fantasy, I suppose, as there is certainly a heavy sci-fi influence to them as well. The first 5 books are now out and available on Kindle reading devices! They are chock full of pictures by myself and some other artists as well- the two illustrations for these books that I created:

Well, I am going to try to keep this post on the short side...I think it might be time for me to start thinking about more than one post a week again. Too much stuff going on over here! For instance, this round I have a bunch of mermaid art and a new comic (always a new comic!!)

I have been thinking a bit on a) giving this comic a title (current working title is 'Dorkling'; I have yet to come up with something more fitting) and B) getting these and other comics to book form of some kind, at some point. I have a layout for a mini comic book, in the same small, self printed, hand bound style as my Zombie Limerick Books...I just need to get inking on that :) Yes, lots going on, much of it behind the scenes and in my head hahaha! Of course, there are a few real life people I need to talk with before I actually do this...but...I think this year will be focused around humor and laughing...because life is too damn short and we should all be afforded a little joking around and horseplay from time to time. In my case, all the freakin time.

Oh my gosh, I have so much to tell you!! And seriously, all this happened at once, like it tends to do, I wasn't even slacking on posting (well, okay, maybe for a *day* I slacked). New art, a new comic, a BOOK!! Plus other awesome stuff!

As always, I will begin with the new art- "Flip". It is NEW COMIC TIME! This new one is not colored in, but mostly because it is night. It's about me getting up at the ungodly hour that I do, and how on some days, it is not that easy. Okay...Book news!! Yes, a book! Over the summer I was working on a bunch of illustrations and a cover piece for Dennis Armstrong's Zombie SOup book, and it is now in print and available for purchase!! Very exciting, and especially so because there are ZOMBIES!! One of my very good friends got me a webcam for my birthday, so I have set up a live stream feed of my studio desk!! It is not on all the time, only when I am working on things that require sitting still (which is not all that often lately). Mondays and Wednesdays are your best bet to catch me in action, or even Tuesday afternoons perhaps? I cannot predict the muse very well these days I am afraid. Now...A quick update on a few things...For one thing, I have raised the starting price of my ACEO art prints (on eBay) from 99 cents to $2. I know, I know, I feel bad and I am sorry to have to do this, but it is time. :\ They are beautiful, quality prints that will last a lifetime, even as small as they are, and are certainly worth $2 if not more. So it is done. I have also reworked my commission prices (and size options) as well, and will open up commissions again (with the new prices) when I unveil my new website look- so probably not for awhile yet. Because I am still plotting and planning, taking notes, doodling little pictures, and gathering, always with the gathering...for a big project! Which I will be sure to post more about as it goes along :)

I hope you all had a wonderful holiday! I vegged out and did nothing, it was awesome and much needed. I do have a bit of new art to share, and a new comic too!

Still on a clown kick, I am apologizing to anyone who has an issue with this. I can't help myself, I must do as the muses tell me. The latest clown illustration is titled "Raining Parade". I don't think this one needs too much explanation, really, it's more of a "how does this make you feel" piece. I will state that if you read the previous line with a silly muppet-esque voice, it will be closest to my intention. Do not take me too seriously; I certainly don't! Haha. Kay, so it's a new year. I haz bean thinkin' lots about things and stuff. Not just now, but for a long time...I've been plotting things, see? I am still in plotting mode, so I do not want to really get into details. But I do want to mention some things that will be changing a little bit in the near future...don't worry, change is good! :)
For one thing, I will be raising my prices a teesy eensy bit. Mostly on the originals, because I am grossly undercharging. I am not quite sure when the price change will go into effect, but I will let you know when it gets close. Also, when I do open commissions again, those prices will be going up. Not a lot, just a little :) Trying to be a tad more organized and a tad less hard on myself, so I am setting up a reduced creation/listing schedule for originals- I will have between 4 and 8 new pieces a month. This may sound like a lot to some of you, but for me it is next to nothing; it does frighten me a bit to scale back this much. But I need to make time to get these other things moving. Not to mention my poor, neglected website! Well, seemingly neglected, I have been working on it off and on for the past few months (shame!) and eventually will unveil the new look :) I think mostly what is holding me up is writing a new and halfway decent artist statement. I change my mind and my art so frequently, it just seems futile to try to harness my life and my passion in so many words. Maybe I should just write that. Maybe it's too 'frou-frou-I'm-an-artiste-I-can-do-whatever-I-so-please'...gah! see what I mean? I need halp. I think I will also cease ramble now.

Mermaid time! woo Hoo! I feel like it's been awhile since I've created a proper mermaid, and awhile since I've worked in an unfamiliar medium, so I thought I'd be all crazy and do both at once hah hah! I have created this mermaid- "Fynn", as I have named her- on a small panel of wood (about 2.75" x 7.25"), using a heated wand to burn her into the wood! This form of, uh, art, is called pyrography. I then gave her a light wash of blue for her skin, and darker blue for the background...and she is complete! This was just a practice piece, but! A Sharp Dragon, plus Raspberries and Cream FB auction!

Well well, I hope you are doing well!

This is going to be a rather dragon-y post :) I thought I'd give the clowns a short break, though I am sure they will be back very very soon! I have a brand new dragon painting to share, as well as a new Facebook exclusive auction (also dragon-related!)
I know it's not a lot, but I'm trying to keep up with the posting :)

Most of my dragons are friendly creatures, though at times they can cause quite a bit of trouble, as dragons are prone to do. I am completely exhausted, to the point of clumsiness and stupid mistake making- it's a joy, let me tell you...

Mmmm...how do you feel about my recently resurrected love of clowns? Is it working for you? Because I gotta say, it's awfully cathartic for me. I am so mentally frazzled lately, and I think it's because I have been very lax in my paperwork and online maintenance duties...the boss part of me has apparently gone out of town, and I don't know when she'll come back...so until then, I am just making piles and lists and mental notes...Even when I am not with the program, I still try to stay a little organized. Okay, on to rambling. I am sure some of you have noticed that I have been slowing WAY down in production over the last few months. I know I have mentioned it before. Being an artist is basically like going through one phase after another, and reveling in that phase as much as possible, gleaning every ounce of knowledge and life from it, every drop of color...once you get all that, the cycle clicks over and there is a new phase to explore. That's how it has always been for me, anyhow. Not to say that it is all grand and fabulous, but I try to experience "bad things" in stride with the "good things"- and quotations because nothing is as it seems, really. Well, I think I have just entered some new and bizarre phase in my art, and thus in my life. I am unfamiliar with the landscape and will need time to get my bearings. Knowing myself as well as I do, I have decided to finally slow down a bit. Well, kind of, in a way. I guess it's more like going rogue-hermit to work on some more involved projects. Of course there will still be art, though, no worries! I just can't promise any sort of consistency in creating new art for now. Also, commissions are officially CLOSED until next year sometime, I have not decided when exactly. I have to get my poor website in order- it is half remodeled and I've put it off for far too long now...But anyway, that's me thinking out loud. Or thinking via keyboard.

Apparenty, it's been so long I don't even know where to begin, I've just been staring at this blank screen for awhile thinking about things. I have two new dragon paintings, a bunch of auctions running on eBay, some new raven prints up in my Zazzle shop...good times!

So, the burlesque show was phenomenal! I had a blast, met a ton of great people, saw some friends, drank some drinks, took in a glorious show, and Ii am still a little tired from it, even though it was last weekend. Well, okay, I am tired from working through all of it and then...oh, haha, wait, I forgot...I jsut work all the time! Still in commission land, and...I will warn you now, I will be reworking my commission set up and pricing very soon...I may very well close down commissions for awhile. So...If you want a custom piece from me, now would be the time to squeak in! I will say that once I close commissions, I will not be reopening them again until next year. I think you have about 2 weeks to decide ;)

I know my art output has been lackluster of late...and I have no justifiable reason to apologize. I keep starting projects and then returning to commissions, and then starting more pieces, etc. It has been like tis for...weeks? a month? longer? I am not sure anymore. But hoooooo-frickin-ray for the day where I have time to paint for myself again, because I am going to bust out a lot of work. Right now, though, I am going to relax and read a little bit.

The Other Emily- a peek into the life behind the artist.

I've been meaning to post this for awhile now- this is a general look into some of the other parts of my life that art not so much about making art. Just for fun, I guess. Also, because I have no new art to post this week :\
Anyhoo, I hope you find it mildly entertaining...or something!

I generally get up every morning between 5 and 5:30 am. EVERY MORNING. If I happen to sleep in, it's never really past 8. Sad, isn't it? Around 6am I have first breakfast, consisting of coffee, some sort of food item (often cereal, sometimes a bagel), and Vitamin B. Then I check my emails, feed the cat, get my shipments all sorted out, and sometimes I list a few things on eBay/Zazzle.

Once I get to work, I have second breakfast, usually a piece of fruit or oatmeal or if everything works out well, someone is there to cook me something tasty, but usually I get hungry again before anyone shows up.

I am most productive if I maintain a consistent state of madness in my studio...During the work week, it can get really disheveled around the desk area- paperwork, pieces, and mail to sort through and deal with. And the lists. Don't even get me started on those!

Other things also escape me at times, like DOING THE DISHES! I live alone, so there is no one but Emily to blame this mess on:

I work outside the studio as a prep cook for Arizona Pizza Company- I am first in every morning, must be in early to make the pizza dough! This is my "office" where I chop, cut, slice, mix, and make all sorts of edible items for our customers! I also spend a good portion of the day here screaming at inanimate machines and muttering to myself under my breath.

This is a batch of medium sized pizza dough balls, ready to roll and then flatten in the dough-flattening-machine. (I don't know what it's called for real). Depending on the level of business and time of year, I can make anywhere from 1 to 6 batches of dough a shift. We have three different sizes. It is a PAIN IN THE ASS. But...I get paid for it, and I am apparently good at it. Also, it is a good opportunity to zen out and brainstorm new pictures!

I have been working in kitchens off and on (mostly ON) for...*ahem*...over ten years now. I have held assorted positions, ranging from dish-dog to manager. At this point, I am content to be a prep cook. I do it very well. At least that is what they tell me, probably just to keep me happy. Don't want to upset a girl with a knife in her hand most of the day, you know? :) But, in all the years I have been "restauranting", I have found that only two things truly matter to make my work days tolerable, even fun...Music, and a great set of coworkers. The music in this particular restaurant is hit or miss, depending on the day and who is managing. Lucky for me, I work with some really wonderful people- hilarious, entertaining, inspiring, just freakin GOOD people. I am very thankful for this, especially because they also put up with ME! I can be a real...well, bitch.

So, I work a regular eight hour day on my feet, running, sweating, swearing, quite often crying, covered in food and grease, and I am pretty beat by the end of the weekend. YEs. I forgot to mention. I WORK EVERY WEEKEND, ALL WEEKEND LONG.

When I get home from work, though, I have this gorgeous man waiting for me:

If I do not have any friends over, then I quietly spend a little down time with the kitty, check all my mails, cook some dinner, and then I sit. Mostly when I sit, it's to relax and let my brain wander a little. Sometimes I watch a movie, though there is always the danger of falling asleep about ten minutes into it. I will work on paintings or illustrations, write up ideas I had during the day, sort through sketches in my journal, slowly work on secret, never-mentioned projects that I feel may never come to fruition, catch up on odds and ends, or read, and do some stretching before bed. I try to go to bed at a reasonable hour (like 11pm) but that usually does NOT happen! And then...it starts all over again the next day!

Basically, I work all the time. You cannot see the glamor in this daily life, because I save it all up and then put it on paper, in color, to share with you. I make art as a release, and as therapy. I make art to give myself something back at the end of the day. I make art because my hands are not happy if they are not speaking for my heart. I make art because it makes me. I make art because I am Emily, and I don't know what else I would do. And...that's all I have to say about that :)

Again! I am so sorry you guys. I am really bogged with work and stuff, just trying to make it through one minute at a time here! Crazyland! Amazingly, I seem to have endless energy and decently upbeat spirits lately, for the most part, so that is helpful! I also happen to have some new art and info on a one night show!

I will start with the brand new art! Since I've taken on a handful of commissions and one slightly involved project, I haven't had a lot of time to make art for art's sake. Though I did find some time recently, and painted up a pretty little Halloween witch! "Flight of the Jack-o-Lanterns" is an original 5" x 7" acrylic painting, featuring a sexy pin up style witch and two flying Jack-o-Lanterns! Hi hi!

Whew! While I am typing this, it is currently 8:15 am and I am trying to *not fall behind* on my work...phhsssh, that is futile, I should know by now. I did get part of a commission piece finished up last night (barring approval) and have a bunch more from that project to work on, as well as another separate piece...and lots of other stuff! But enough of that for now. I have NEW ART to share! well, one new piece. :\ Better than nothing! Also- 4" x 6" open edition art prints for $5 each, some older original pieces up for auction on eBay, and perhaps some rambling...

Allow me to introduce the completed "Dead Monster Bouquet"- she is an original 8.5" x 11" illustration (inks, acrylics, and pencil on bristol). I started this piece in a really bad mood, and in my head she was much darker...at least at first. But because I do not have the luxury of working on one piece all the way through at the moment, I had to keep putting her aside. Days passed, and I wasn't in a terrible mood anymore. Some colors peeked through. Bouquets should be colorful, even if they are made of dead scary things with sharp claws and angry mouths. Also, I should note two things about this piece- first being that I had intended for the ink on the background monsters to run and bleed, so...I am aware of that. I had hoped for a little more bleed, but what can you do. Also, no monsters were harmed in the creation of this piece- the dead ones were "ethically collected after death" and "preserved in an ecologically friendly" fashion. First of all... I am working on a few new ladies...I had to take a break from the dragons, I needed a little sexy in my life. Greetings from Emily-Land!

Well...Firstly, I am in an area that may or may not be hit by Hurricane Irene, so...it is very possible I could lose power for a few days, in which case...I will not be online. Just a warning. At this point I am brainstorming things to do when the power goes out...as i like to be as productive as possible, regardless of the situation! BUT! For now, I have THREE new original paintings to share!

Onto art! First up, I have two brand new, adorable, ORIGINAL dragon ACEO paintings up for auction on eBay! Hi all!

Sorry, I know it's just been one day longer than usual, but I feel like I've lived three weeks in one...Sadly, one of my kitties has left this world, and so I am dealing with that loss, trying to take a little extra time out of my schedule to just...be. :( But...on a happier note, I do have some new art to share, a new comic strip, and some fun stuff on Zazzle!

Oh my goodness, I am sneaking in another post this week! Whaa? :D

So, this new portrait set features *two* little acrylic paintings- each one is 2" square on canvas. This set is two pretty fairies, one blue, one purple, with swirly white hair and sweet smiles! New bookmarks have been listed in my darklingemily etsy shop! New images, including my raven painting "The Locket", and my illustration "Compass Angel", plus lots more, and they are each just $3! Maybe you have a Kindle or some other newfangled reading contraption, and I say 'good for you'! I, on the other hand, am rather old fashioned when it comes to certain things, books being near the top of that list. I need them to be made of paper and to be books. So, I still find bookmarks to be a feasible item to produce. I can at least use them myself hah hah! Anyhoo...you can view all of them in my etsy shop HERE!

Hello!

Things got all crazy, so I have been a bit quiet on the social networking front lately (sorries to all). I picked up an extra half shift at the day job, effectively leaving me with approximately 2.5 entire studio days, if I don't sleep. ;) So, I've been busting butt. I do have a few new pieces to share, and I am working on getting a small stockpile to list at my leisure...SO hopefully you won't even notice I am missing!

The first new piece is actually a set of two! "Hello Phone" features two little portraits (each painting is 2" square) of cute 50's era style girls. A little flirty, definitely adorable! I love them... I have taken the liberty of matting and framing them together in a 4" x 6" frame...you can see all the pictures, read all about them, and even place a bid at the link below the picture ($15 starting bid)

She is my latest painting (8" x 10" acrylic on canvas panel)...Feeling like a machine and feeling the need to balance my input/output levels has been a recent recurring theme in my life, so...I had to paint a sexy robot, of course! The original color scheme for this piece was going to be red-black-white-gold...but something told me to go with a softer color. Glad I listened! Okay...go pee, grab a snack and get situated, cuz I'm gonna ramble at you for a minute! LOL! Firstly, I want to thank each and every one of you who have supported my art over the years. It is just...so...wonderful to be able to share these little worlds, stories, and pictures, and have them be received by open eyes and open hearts. Even all you critics, I love you too. All of you have helped me to become a better artist, and in turn, a better person, every day. There's no way I can ever truly express my gratitude. But I will always try. :) *ahem* sorry to get all mushy on ya...Full moon in Cancer (I think) coming up, and I am feelin it...Ugh!

Anyhoo, how about some shallow rambling? Ha ha, okay- so, remember last week when I was hemming and hawing about painting a mermaid on that long, thin canvas? Well, that's not happening at the moment. I flew off on another weird tangent, and am now working on a few new ladies (and some dudes!). I have a nude robot sketched out, and had her all ready to get onto canvas. Then I got another idea, and ANOTHER IDEA, and ANOTHER ONE...so...things are pretty much a carnival over here, working 3-4 pieces in the physical realm and about 4 more in my brain. I don't know what is wrong with me, making so much dang work for myself. On top of that, I seem to be in kind of a 'summer' mood, so I've been out and about more often, and not in the studio WORKING LIKE I SHOULD BE! Things are still getting accomplished, though not at the pace that I prefer to keep. But...all work and no play...you know? Not that I don't LOVE to paint, but...I've been told I'm only human, so that's what I'm rollin' with for now ;)

Oh my gosh...

I am pretty much up to my eyeballs in sketches to be made into art. Too many ideas, not enough hands, table space, or time ahhh! Oh well, I suppose eventually I will get to them all :)

I guess. Sorry to be a tease. I'm sure I will figure it all out eventually. But I am also working on some other things; trying to keep the ball rolling with my "writing a comic once a week". Lots more dragons have been prancing around the studio lately. And some nude ladies. So...let there be art! Wait...I gotta make it first ha ha!

Well I managed to get a lot done today...surprisingly...

A handful of new ACEO auctions, (plus a TON of other auctions!), a website update, a few sketches, a bunch of art mailed, house cleaned (kind of, good enough), laundry washed, folded, put away...sweet!

Here's a new original ACEO- and I *LOVE* her! I almost did not list her...so if she gets no bids this round I will stash her in my personal collection. Just sayin'. I've titled this lovely brunette nude "Grave Robyn"...because I am a huge dork. The first new painting is titled "Prep Monster"- she is a sort of self portrait, I suppose, of me at my day job...or how I wish I could be...or something. Awww, man, we just had a CRAZY storm here!

I have seen storms of the like before, but never up here...Tornadoes and hail and green and yellow skies and such...madness! The cat and I just hung out and watched it all. I figured if all hell broke loose, the bathtub was not too far away...Sadly, I do not have a basement where I'm at.

Okay...
Well...If you follow my blog, you know by now that I am a HUGE dork.
I've had this blog for about a year now.
I just now, TODAY, JUST THIS MINUTE...figured out how to check my comments.
There are quite a few of them, which makes me very gleeful! I love comments, it lets me see what you all see!
However, the sad (and dorky) part of this is that because I did not know they were there, I have not responded to a single one...
So, to each and every one of you who has commented in the past, I say "Thank you from the bottom of my heart" and I also say "I am so sorry I neglected to respond!"

It's Work in Progress time! Lately I've been off in the WTF closet of my mind...all sorts of mis-matched items, nonsensical ideas, leftover sketches from a different Emily, scribbled words that I am sure I am misreading...This closet, it is a mess, but it is fun and interesting, not at all what I would expect, and exactly what I need. So, from the closet of WTF I bring to you the latest- "Rochambeau"! At this stage she is just a group of work in progress pictures in my Facebook album HERE. I am trying to take it easy, and kind of just do whatever I want, for realz. Sales are down, I can't seem to impress anyone with enough cash to spend frivolously, and so instead of freaking out about it, I'm just gonna play. Oh weekend, you are not to me what you are to others...

Greetings my dears,

I have been all off schedule lately, beginning to feel a bit like the White Rabbit...wanting so desperately to be on time, properly attired, and ready for whatever it is I am supposed to be prepared for...but not even knowing what that might be, or where I put my shoes/hat/keys/watch...argh!! There is no such thing as "one thing at a time" in Emilyland, either, so, I just have to grin and bare it. :D

Hello there...

Well, I know it has been a bit since my last post...Things have been slightly on their ear lately, and I am trying my best to deal with real life. Last weekend my dog passed away, so I have been really bummed and sad. It's difficult to paint when you are crying all the time...and of course that's the only thing that would take my mind off it...He was a wonderful dog, and would have made an even better person. Sweet Oliver, you will be missed sorely, and certainly never ever forgotten.

Hi hi!

Well, I have been playing catch up in the studio this week; got some new pieces to share! A brand new Dragon Square (#5!), a slightly sad nautical illustration, some new ACEOs...plus I am in the mood to ramble, so...yay!

Firstly, I am very proud to introduce to you all the latest Dragon Square painting- #5! This original 5" x 5" sqaure fantasy painting features a lone robot/spaceship/satellite dragon flying through outer space! I am so happy that I've managed to make it look like what I wanted it to! Let's all cheer for sci-fi...yay! For some reason, I have always had this strange obsession with dragons AND outer space; the one tattoo I have is of a space dragon :). This is quite the dragon-y post today! I have a brand new Dragon Square painting, one brand new ACEO, T shirts, and something very special that Natalie Von Raven (Magisterian) and I cooked up together...

Of course I must begin with this (mostly) sweet little dragon..."Dragon Square #4" features a wary blue dragon, perched on a morning glory vine, watching some honey bees while they work. Yeah, I had to take a little time off from the computer this past week- doing a little more spring cleaning (there is still more fun to be had in that department), then I hurt my "drawing" thumb, and it needed to heal and rest, so...I've been lame and boring. Hurrah! LOL!

Anyway, I am back with some new art (okay, kind of a bunch of new art hee hee), plus some other random news and stuff...

I will begin with my latest favorite painting "April Fool". I am in love with this jester, and her red umbrella (I do not own an umbrella of my own, but I am fascinated by them...) and there's even a rubber ducky to keep her company! I can only hope that as the year progresses, I can make more jesters like her! Part of my ongoing Raven series, #20 features a solitary raven flying through a bright sunrise. The original painting is 5" x 7" (acrylics). So, I've been busy painting away, and brainstorming of course! Currently, I have put all my larger, more involved projects on HOLD, mostly because I am getting confused and frazzled...Sometimes, I make far too much work for myself. Not that I don't love it, but...I don't want to live in a state of confusion *all* the time hahaha!

At any rate, I have some new art, some old art (but equally as awesome), and some new merch to share :)

I want to begin by introducing the latest dragon square- "Dragon Square #3" features a sweet little starry green dragon; he is flying through a very colorful mist (it's probably sugar-laden) and he seems to be quite hyper! He's adorable! So sorry I have been slacking on the blog posts! Been busy, tired, sick, trying to get back to normal...brainstorming a lot, doing some spring cleaning...
I have some new art to share! Well, kind of new...LOL! The first piece is my latest dragon zodiac illustration (been a long time coming)! "Virgo Dragon" is an original 8" x 10" illustration, featuring a lovely cream colored dragon, with feathered wings, and big blue eyes. The glyph for Virgo, and Mercury also make an appearance. Well well, we meet again...

Sooo....making good strides in my new projects- I am working on a new "Little Things" painting...well, she is sketched out, and the canvas is primed, however, that is currently as far as I've gotten...I have a few new "Problems" illustrations working, some writings that I should get to...so many things! I wish so badly that I could work on them all at once. I wish I could split myself up into more Emily's kind of like Dr. Manhattan (from Watchmen) can. A girl can only dream, I guess.

Okay, now, for a new painting! Yay!! It's been awhile since I've had a chance to get anything done on my "Little Things" series, but here is the latest- "Soap in the Air". A pretty blond thing is blowing bubbles at you...The landscape is cheery but strange. This piece is saturated with sickly-sweet candy colors. I love it! She is painted in acrylics on a scalloped wooden plaque; measures approximately 7" x 9" x 1". To continue being the dork that I am, here's a little train of thought: I am typing all of this without really using my right index finger. It's covered in Band-Aids and it feels weird when I type with it. I cut myself on a foil container at work. :( This was right after getting a cardboard cut (cousin to the paper cut, but much more horrid)...It's funny. Of all the things at work that I could really injure myself on, it is those that seem so harmless that always end up maiming me. Perhaps I should be more wary of "those who look like they don't bite" ;)

Now, let me introduce the new series...heh heh heh! This has been formulating in the very back of my head for some time now. It is sort of a look at me, through my own artist eyes. Of course, it has been stylized a bit, and I will probably embellish a lot and make a lot of shit up, but...as an introvert, I deal with myself all of the time, and have more than a few major 'faces' that make up my days. These 'faces' do not always get along, and thus I put up with many an internal struggle. Well, this is sort of a tongue-in-cheek look at some of the recurring obstacles and culprits of my inner landscape. I'm honestly not wanting to come off as narcissistic with this; really, the reason I'm doing it is more out of (my version of) laziness than anything. This way, I don't have to think too much about the story behind the art. I can just make the art. But, enough rambling. Here is the very first piece in the series I will refer to as "Problems"...

Merry Holidays from Emily Grinch!

So...I've been stressing and working and stressing, but it is pretty much over now...I think...except for the working part, which will never, ever end LOL! I wanted to take this opportunity to wish you all a safe and fabulous holiday!!

Unfortunately, I do not have any new finished art to share, that is how busy I have been! But, if you are interested in checking out what I am currently (and very slowly) working on, there are work in progress photos in my Facebook album HERE! Hopefully I will have something to show for myself very soon.

So, the game plan for the next few weeks is basically this- I am taking a pseudo-break. I need it. Bad. I will be listing originals and prints on eBay, and both my etsy shops will remain open. I will be here to ship out orders and answer emails, and will probably do a fair amount of Facebooking (because I am an addict LOL!)...However, I cannot promise any consistency with blog posts or new etsy listings for a bit. I will, of course, still be making art; I have plans to get some writing done as well. I need to get my Circus & Side Show book stuff in order and quit slacking! Not to mention the poor, neglected, and probably slightly angry "secret project"...

Holy crap...

I've been staring at this stupid computer screen nearly all day, I can barely take it anymore! LOL! But I wanted to leave you all with a blog post before the holiday ;) Besides, I have a brand new painting to show off, and a special zombie original painting auction, too! And, as you may have surmised form the title of this post, plus my crabbing, I have also managed to update my website...

So, this latest painting is part of my "Little Things" series (yeah, I broke down and just decided to call it that, harumph.) This piece is "The View From November" and features a beautiful dark haired lady with a monocle-type device...a tiny owl is nestled on her hair comb, and the bare November trees are wailing...I really love this piece, I hope she finds a good home! This is an original 8" x 10" acrylic painting on a canvas panel; wire hanger on the back. Well...I think I have finally accepted that summer is gone. It took a long time. Now the holidays are staring me down, and I find myself not wanting to deal with them, as usual...

I do have some new art to share tonight! YAY! It's been a week LOL! I've got "Elephant Breeze" all completed (that was the one I was showing WIPs of last week), plus a smaller painting- "Black Cherry Masquerade". Also, some new ACEO auctions, and maybe something else I am forgetting at this very moment...

So, I will introduce you first to the very newest painting, "Black Cherry Masquerade"- this is an original 5" x 7" acrylic painting on a canvas panel. I love that the color scheme worked out. Okay, I know, I suck. I've been rather sick this past week, so I thought I would take it easy for once in my life (well, I *kinda* did) and just rest...I am feeling better now, even with the sickness still hanging on...So, yes, I have some rambling to do today, but I also have some new art :)

Two new ACEO originals! They are both fantasy relates, one being a fairy, the other a nymph and dragon...The new nymph and dragon ACEO is titled "Night Flight"- a pretty blonde nymph and her little green dragon are huddling up, coming up with a game plan for their nightly flight...This original 2.5" x 3.5" illustration is listed for auction on eBay, with a starting bid of just $5! So, yes, not a whole heck of a lot to share, as far as art goes. I am trying to get the rest of these short prose blurb things written for my Circus & Side Show pieces so I can compile them into a picture book of sorts. Apparently, I am having a hard time wriggling into my writer's suit lately. I just can't sit still and listen to the words in my head. My fingers just want to paint and draw, and my brain is coming up with erroneous things for me to do. So, it is a focus issue, I suppose, and I do not have 100% energy right now, so I can't just will myself to do it, like I normally do.

I really hate being sick, and I am a huge baby about it, because it is so rare that it happens (lucky me!)...I can't breathe, I can't sleep, I can't taste my food or even think straight, it sucks. So, the other day, while I was working, I had this idea that I would try the wings challenge we have at work. Cuz the wings are wicked spicy hey. The challenge is essentially 12 wings in 4 minutes, lick all your fingers, and wait another minute. But, I am telling you, the sauce is ridunculous. I know there's a lot of ghost chili in it. I don't know what else is in there because it really doesn't matter. So anyhoo, I took the challenge, and failed miserably...but I could breathe for the whole rest of the night and the next morning. And somewhere out there is a really stupid picture of me flailing with hot sauce all over my hands and mouth.

And now it is getting late, so I'm gonna sneak in a few more layers on my painting and then get some sleep!

Siamese Twins ACEO, Dragon painting auction, and The Hat!

I went a little longer than planned between posts here, I hope you can forgive me! So, I do not have a *ton* of art to share tonight...A new Circus & Side Show ACEO, an older dragon piece up for auction, and a brand new painting, which I am in love with...

I have to start with the new painting, because I am excited and don't want to wait LOL! This is the first piece in a new series! The new series is essentially inspired by the simple joys in life, like stupid toys (kazoos, pinwheels...) and fun stuff like hats and balloons. It would be more helpful if I had a name for this series, but it has not come to me yet (open for suggestions? sure)...I just know winter is right around the corner, and got an attack of "OMG, everything's going to be white and grey for the next six months" anxiety, and started plotting out images in color color color! But...enough blabbering, let me show you the first piece in the series- "The Hat"! She is an ORIGINAL acrylic painting, measuring 7" x 14" (long and thin) on a piece of particle board...I know, it's not the most professional base I have used, however I have a ton of them and wanted to try painting on one. I get them from work, when I have to cut up the 50 lb. blocks of cheddar cheese. Anyway..."The Hat" is available for purchase in my darklingemily etsy shop, at the link below the picture:

Good evening all!

So...I pretty much did eff-all this week. Okay, that is not true, but as far as art goes, I didn't make a whole heck of a lot. Been getting the gardens ready for winter, potting plants for indoors, working, filling orders, and trying not to fall asleep too early...Most nights I don't succeed at that last one.

I had a blast at the zombie pub crawl :) Got wasted and met a lot of zombies! I will have some pictures soon(ish) to share...But, seriously, this is why I don't go out all that often- because I have waaay too much fun, then it takes me two days or so to get back all my energy and bearings. So...I don't think I will be going out for Halloween. I will be working and then working some more.

I have listed some new grossness in my zombietoes etsy shop...A one of a kind, hand sculpted Deathbox, complete with two little zombie magnets inside! This Deathbox is the second one I've ever made. They are pseudo- necronomiconesque, with the stretched faces, real stitching, and subtle painted accents...totally disgusting. I love them! I painted this piece awhile back, but there was something about it...wasn;t sure what, for the longest time...Now I know what it was. But I'm not telling. I have no idea how long I will be out for, or what time exactly, or if you would even recognize me if you saw me...I have a pretty good idea of what I want my makeup to look like (it's pretty minimal, like a recently turned zombie...some veins and dark eyes, maybe a gash or two...I dunno)...But, yes, if you come out and you find me, I will give you zombie presents!

That's a lot of zombie. Dang. Well, thanks for putting up with all that, and I hope you don't despise me for it. I've got to go have a brownie and get some relaxing done!

So, I have been kind of slacking off this week...Well, at least with posting new art and such. Been busy with other things, aka real life LOL! But I do have a few new pieces to share tonight- another original circus ACEO, a Ralphie sculpture, and even some zombie magnets! Yes, it is a strange art post, not much fantasy this round, I fear...

Okay, first, the newest Circus & Side Show ACEO- "Lobster Boy"! Yes, this is one of the weirder side show specimens, but there is something vaguely charming about him...perhaps it is his sandy blond hair. At any rate, this original 2.5" x 3.5" illustration is up for auction on eBay, with a starting bid of just $5! Next up, RALPHIE!!! EEEE!!! *ahem* sorry, I just get so happy whenever I see him! I even made myself a Ralphie magnet to keep at work to make me smile ;) This is a new sort of Ralphie bird, a small polymer clay sculpture. He's blue, and about 2.25" tall, and super adorable! Also, he is only $5, as he is listed in my zombietoes etsy shop and everything is still 50% off until the end of this month! So...I have some pretty awesome plans in the works for next weekend...They are not fully formed as of yet, but it has to do with zombies and possibly ingesting a wee bit of the ol' alcohols...I will keep y'all posted on that. ;) For now, I must go and make further plans, get some things organized, and perhaps get some sketching done. But I will probably just fall asleep in my chair in front of the TV like a lame arse.
