I'm back and I brought a Clown with me!!

Well, Hi, I'm back!

Couldn't stay away forever, though at times it would make my life more simple...:) I am currently in the act of accepting that I have more than one artistic style, and both are valid and deserving of expression. So, I've decided to step back into the fantasy realm from time to time...plotting on releasing one new fantasy piece a month! Hopefully I won't punk out and go back on these plans ;) Gah! The life of an artist...had I known...perhaps I would have gone to college (hahahahaha). Well...I really have no poetic words of wisdom, but I will say this- it is just ridiculously stupid to deny who you are, even if who you are is a complete and utter lunatic.
Okay, art time, then...Here is my newest Darkling painting- "Scribbles the Clown" (aka My Clown Face).

Click here to see more of Scribbles :D

This is an ACTUAL portrait of my face, taken from a photo of me in my Halloween costume. Hmmmm, well, it USED to be *just* a Halloween costume, but I've taken a liking to wearing it while drinking and talking shit. Sometimes, I like to wear it and PRETEND I am drunk, but really I am soberly talking shit. (What? You'd really hit a drunken girl clown with glasses? Shame on you!! :P)

So...Yes, back to "being a professhunal"- there will be one new fantasy piece a month, some sort of crazy blog ramble to go along with the new art, and then posters and prints shortly after each new release :) And of course, website updates and such. I tried to quit painting mermaid boobs, I really tried...but you know, it's just not worth the cost, to NOT do it. ;)

NEW Repaint- "Outersea" octopus mermaid, plus NEW double sided ACEO prints and Dragon Doodle!

Well, hello there!

So...A new painting!! Hooray!! I have been quite slackerly with the blog, and for that I am truly sorry. The more I joke about feeling sympathy for the White Rabbit, the more like him I become. Forgive the lack of work in progress shots, too. I've been posting them to my personal Facebook profile, and not my Darkling Treasures Facebook page, mainly because I feel like it's a waste of time. I've had to go back to basics, for sanity's sake (hahahaha, like I even know what that IS)...Back to basics is: WEBSITE, this BLOG, and my personal Facebook profile. Feel free to add me HERE as a friend, though I MUST reiterate: This is my personal profile. I may not actually be as whimsical, innocent, or even as nice and sweet as I perhaps (and quite accidentally) have led you to believe.

*ahem* aaanyhow, onto the new art!! Weee! "Outersea" is by far one of the most detailed, tedious, and irritating piece I have worked on to date. Strangely, she is also pretty impressive. At least I think so. After the initial concept re-sketch in pencil, I had no plans for her. No color scheme, no background ideas, no real purpose behind her...just flying by the seat of my pants. So, I spent a lot of time just staring at her, a bunch of grey lines on an otherwise white canvas. At a certain point, I just started adding color, because sometimes you have to work without inspiration...that's when it will sneak over to you and attack your toes under the desk. Perhaps that was my cat. It doesn't matter now. This mermaid lady and I went with the flow until we decided she was complete. Here is the finished painting:

"Outersea" original mermaid octopus painting- for auction on eBay

She's currently up for auction on eBay HERE for ONE MORE DAY, and if she ends with no bids, she does have a destination. What I am trying to tell you is that this is your only chance to get the original!! And at half price, too! That's a wicked good deal. Just sayin.

Of course, I do have a SONG to go with this piece :) "Splish Splash" by Bobby Darin:

Also noteworthy- I've got some special NEW ACEO art prints of "Pris-tend" and "Button Pusher" listed for auction on eBay. I call these 'special' because they are DOUBLE SIDED!! This is something I've been wanting to do for awhile now. The ACEOs are professionally printed in archival inks on cardstock- the front features the full color painting, and the back displays the original concept illustration and the story blurb to go along with the piece. Because these prints have art on BOTH sides, I *have* raised the starting bid from my usual $2 for an ACEO to $3, but that is still a fair price. Check them out:

Ooh, and a new original Dragon Doodle! This is "Cold Shoulder":

Now...back to the desk!!

Fool's Blood- NEW PAINTING- complete with ramble! Plus, a TON of mermaids!

Oh, good, I have finally found some time to post my new painting!!! Yay!! I also have a few other random things to share...actually, just mermaids. Lots of mermaids. And the new painting!!

Okay, first the new painting...I have decided to keep the working title "Fool's Blood", because that's what it is, that's what SHE is...*ahem* Anyhoo..."Fool's Blood" is an original 11" x 14" acrylic painting on a canvas panel. She is signed, sealed, wired, ready to hang as is or frame...all that good stuff!! I have put her up for auction on eBay- the link below the picture will take you to the auction, where you are invited to come check out the detail pictures, share via your preferred social media outlet, place a bid, etc, etc (hint hint):

I don't really want to get into the specifics of how she came to be (pain, obviously) but I will tell you some things about the process of this particular painting...For one thing, it is REALLY DIFFICULT to paint while you are crying. It just does not work. It's hard to see, plus I am not too sure how archival teardrops are...I'd think not so much. Secondly, this version of this song:

Now, I don't normally go for dubstep, but the elements of 'robot noise' really brought it home. Go ahead and judge me if you must, I will understand.
After finding this song, I went out and rented Requiem for a Dream (which I have seen before, and certainly recommend to anyone with a strong psyche)...which led me to develop a strange and totally random celebrity crush on Marlon Wayans. So. That was my February, or at least the creative part of it. Of course I did lots of other stuff, too. But this blog is not about those things.

Hmmm, I hope you know I did not mean to make anyone feel sad, I just wanted to share my process. It is not all sunshine and rainbows, you know, being an artist...being an Emily. ;P Now, how about some pretty pretty mermaids? Hahaha :) Let me explain: March Madness!! My version, of course! It is consisting of one brand new mermaid illustration every single day for the month of March! All of them are available for purchase (save the ones that have already sold). Everything is right here on this special page on my website:
A Mermaid A Day for March
Here's a picture of one of my personal favorites:

So, that is about it for the moment. I will try to do a rework this month, but...I am not sure if I will have time! We will save that for another post :)

Yes, just a short post tonight. I spent a solid 5 hours on a commission today, from start to finish, and I am kinda worn out and want to veg out in front of the tv and not think. Earlier today I was thinking about going through some of my supplies and selling some things as destash through my etsy shop, but I will have to go through them before I even know what I can part with. I think I will be getting myself deep into one of my larger projects soon, and I am preparing for that by making a whole bunch of ACEOs to have on hand for listing. Trying to get as downsized, prepared, and organized with things to do before winter really hits, and I am left scrambling, lost, and trapped in my studio....Which is really not the worst place to be. ;) But, now, I am off to relax! Have a good night!

Low Tide Mermaid ACEO, Pandora + Dragon Art Card, Mervamp painting, + tags at MyTagArt!!

Sleeeeeepy! hahaha!!

Aside from being sleepy, I am *really* craving chocolate, and I don't have any. So...I suffer without :/ On the upside, I think the garden/yard is really starting to look decent, and is not as frustrating to deal with now. Yay!

Now, for some art...I have actually completed the latest zodiac dragon- Gemini- however, I have not listed it or posted it anywhere online yet, as I have a bunch of other art that I have not updated on :) So, I did not want to overwhelm anyone with too much art, heh heh! I have two new ACEO illustrations, and an older painting, all up for auction on eBay!

The first new ACEO is titled "Low Tide"- I really love this piece, it reminds me of a fairytale- a mermaid sits far off shore, at low tide, witht he sky darkening behind her...This is an ORIGINAL ACEO (Art Cards, Editions, and Originals- 3.5" x 2.5") created in acrylic paint and archival inks on bristol. She is up for auction starting at just 99 cents, with free shipping! To see more details, and even make a bid, just follow the link below her picture:

The other new ACEO is an illustration of Pandora, her box, and her dragon pet- titled "Pandora's Pet"! The colors in this piece are very bright, and Pandora has a bit of a Latin flair to her (at least, I like to think so :)). Created in the same acrylic paint and ink combo as "Low Tide"...She is also up for auction on eBay, starting at (yup, you guessed it!) 99 cents! Free shipping as well. To view more pictures, read the little blurb I wrote for her, and make your bid, chech out the link below the picture:

And last, but not least, I have listed my original "Mervamp" painting ofor auction (on eBay)...This original acrylic painting is on the darker side of fantasy- a lovely, big eyed mermaid vampire creature, swimming in a pond, just off the cemetery, under a full moon :) She is a 12" x 9" piece, on gallery wrapped canvas (sides measure 1", and are painted black). Ready to hang, no frame necessary, but certainly frameable if you wish! To see her listing and perhaps make a bid on this curiously fringhtening creature, visit the link below her picture:

Of course, I have a bunch more ACEOs and other art up for auction, most of it starting at $10 or under...if you'd like to see them all on one page, click here!

One more last thing before I "go"...There are a bunch of mew PSP tags of my images up at MyTagArt, and a few of them are at a special price for their "Mer-May" celebration :) To see what they've got of mine, just click here!

That's all I can manage for tonight. I have 4 new ACEOs sitting on my desk, all inked out, but waiting for color, so...I'll be getting to at least one of those tonight, and maybe even a really bad horror movie, too! Have a good weekend all!

xo!
