Alrighty then...First on the zombie menu, some art (yay)! I have listed some new grossness in my zombietoes etsy shop...A one of a kind, hand sculpted Deathbox, complete with two little zombie magnets inside! This Deathbox is the second one I've ever made. They are pseudo- necronomiconesque, with the stretched faces, real stitching, and subtle painted accents...totally disgusting. I love them! I have no idea how long I will be out for, or what time exactly, or if you would even recognize me if you saw me...I have a pretty good idea of what I want my makeup to look like (it's pretty minimal, like a recently turned zombie...some veins and dark eyes, maybe a gash or two...I dunno)...But, yes, if you come out and you find me, I will give you zombie presents!

Yes, just a short post tonight. I spent a solid 5 hours on a commission today, from start to finish, and I am kinda worn out and want to veg out in front of the tv and not think. Earlier today I was thinking about going through some of my supplies and selling some things as destash through my etsy shop, but I will have to go through them before I even know what I can part with. I think I will be getting myself deep into one of my larger projects soon, and I am preparing for that by making a whole bunch of ACEOs to have on hand for listing. Trying to get as downsized, prepared, and organized with things to do before winter really hits, and I am left scrambling, lost, and trapped in my studio....Which is really not the worst place to be. ;) But, now, I am off to relax! Set of TWO mixed media fairy ACEOs
So, details are at the above link, but just for funzies, let me try to sell you...;) I had a short spell of mixed media madness last week, and made a few fantasy collage ACEOs. This is a set of TWO original fairy ACEOs, in my signature mixed media style...something I have not done in awhile! I do not foresee making a ton of these little treasures this year, so if you have wanted one, now is a good time! I used to make these all the time, but at this juncture in my "art life" I am trying out other things. But...lots of texture, color, depth, and detail in these tiny worlds! I promise, if you like fantasy art at all, these will not disappoint you. :)
And...before I go back to my desk to finish my latest painting (to see work in progress pics of it, just click HERE, and scroll down to the bottom of the page for the newest!)...The two year anniversary of my zombietoes etsy shop is next month/aka tomorrow/aka October, and I am planning a shop-wide sale to celebrate! Well, I have been busy this week! I just wrote out my "to do" list, and it's quite long...Hopefully I will have time to whittle it down! But enough of "what shall be" and on to "what is"...

I've just completed a commission piece (for more information about how to commission me, just click HERE), and also have been working on some random art the past few days- none of them are really part of a series or project, they are just stand alone pieces. It's been awhile since I've done this, and I find myself to be a little bit lost...but because I have no parameters at all, it allows me to "just do" and see what happens...ah, how quaint and ideal. Heh heh heh. It's nice, though, to just 'make' to make. Right now, I'm gonna go make some cookies and then more art!

It has it's own ISBN number and everything! Also, this is the compilation book, so there are over 75 zombie limericks, over 60 illustrations, and a full color paperback cover, featuring my "Procession to Breakfast" painting! I am soooooo psyched! YAY!! It is essentially all three volumes of my zombie limericks (you know, the ones available through my etsy shop here...), plus a sh*tload of new limericks and illustrations! Dudes, it's like 80 pages hahaha! I'm so psyched. :D
I spent all afternoon painting, it is so nice to have time for that LOL! Aside from the new jester piece, I am working on my ACEO series of women with dragons...which I really should get back to about now :)

But no worries, I will be fine. I'd rather be eyeball deep in projects than bored silly.

Ah, I have been such a slacker with my blog lately. Please accept my apologies, and know that I am still creating, even if i am not posting a lot :)
Anyway, enough blabber. I have a few new pieces to share tonight, along with some 99 cent ACEO auctions, and a nifty zombie binder...
So, first, the new art! I have been working on and off on this piece for over a week now...It's taken me virtually forever to get her done! I'm not used to taking so long on one piece, but I think she came out splendidly...
"Psychopomps" is an original 5" x 7" illustration, in acrylic paints and inks, featuring a lovely angel winged fairy and a bunch of sparrows. The title is a greek word meaning "soul guide", and sparrows happen to be one of the specific animals that help guide peoples' souls from one plane of existence to another...

Now, new ACEO time! Yay! I've listed my latest Circus & Side Show art on eBay- "The Magician" is an original 2.5" x 3.5" illustration- a magician in a top hat is showing off his card tricks! Lots of detail in this tiny piece, and in the color scheme of red, yellow, blue, black, and brown, as all of my other Circus & Side Show ACEOs have been. What else...Oh, yes! A new product from me, through my Zazzle shop! BINDERS!! YaY! As it is nearly time for school again, I thought I'd better hop on the binder band wagon and get some made up! I have a few options to choose from- two different zombie binders, and a dragon binder! And a reminder, as it is almost August 15th...and on the 15th, I will be holding my 15% off all orders sale, in my darklingemily etsy shop! As usual, if you purchase anything on the 15th, please wait for me to invoice you with the 15% off discount...I only do it this way, because it saves me the trouble of having to change all my prices for one day...I may extend this sale to my zombietoes shop as well, and I will be sure to let you all know!
As for projects, I am in the mode of getting my zombie compilation book formatted- there are a few final touches on illustrations that need to be completed, but...hopefully I will have this baby ready to rock out before Halloween! The original deadline (yes, I do set deadlines for myself LOL!) was end of August; however, I have been at work (at my "real" job) A LOT and haven't had all the time I thought I would...But, such is life. :) I am also working on a new series of ACEOs, which may not be released until my Circus & Side Show series is complete (which may actually be the end of this month)...But, this new series is based off of one of my recent ACEOs, "Too Tired to Fly"...Here is a pic of her:
Each ACEO in the new series will have a beautiful woman and a dragon. I have them all sketched out in pencil, waiting for ink and paint :) But, first I must complete my other series LOL!! Not to mention my jester series (which is ongoing) and my poor, neglected dragon zodiac series...:( So...I suppose I better get back to the grind!

So, I do have a few new pieces up for auction- two jester pin up ACEO prints, a print of my ACEO "Over the Rainbow", and a new original! But, I kind of feel like rambling, so this blog post will mostly be me fulfilling *that* whim ;)

So...I'm gonna ramble about my week now. You've been fairly warned ;)
on Tuesday, I had to go into work in the early morning...When I got there, I noticed a baby bird hopping around in the road. So, I scooped it up and moved it to safety. I know you are not technically supposed to touch wild baby animals, because I guess the scent of human on them is sometimes enough to make the parents abandon them...But I was *not* going to leave that poor little guy out in harms way. It wasn't hurt, and was certainly about "learning to fly" age. Plus, one of the parent birds was right there, screaming at me the whole time. When I went on break later in the day, the baby and parent were gone, so...I assumed the best (for once)...Plus, I got to hold a baby bird before work! They are sooo cute :)
This morning, I found myself downtown before work, so I ran a few errands, grabbed a cup of coffee, and headed to the cemetery to visit with my namesake (Ms. Emily Dickinson). Some of the grass in the front of the graveyard hadn't been mowed in quite some time, and it was long and brown (but not in a gross way). In that part of the cemetery, the tombstones are very old, many are cracked and crooked. It was so quintessential, and I was silently cursing myself for not having my camera with me. So, I had a nice peacefully creepy morning, writing zombie limericks with Ms Dickinson in the graveyard.
It's strange, though, that a town as busy as Amherst has a "dead spot" (pun intended) right in the center of the center...I don't go to cemeteries and hang out because its cool and slightly gothy...I might be a dork, but I am not a big enough dork to be a goth (sorry goths). I'm just me. I just like that it is peaceful, but not all that lonely. I like that there is history and secrets, and lives past. Plus, even those dead and gone, for so long that there is no one left alive to visit them, still deserve a visitor now and then.
And...that's my ramble.
