I am still working on my Red Velvet Cake pin up jester. She is nearly complete, and I may just finish her up tonight after I get all my computer work done...Though, I do have a few new work in progress pictures up in my Facebook album HERE if you are curious ;) She's very pretty! And I think the next jester will be a candy apple themed piece...I just absolutely love apples. Delish.
n other news, I've been having numerous creative epiphanies...It's all I can do to get them written down until I have the time to sort through them, edit, decide whether or not they are worthy of my time, and get them moving...A lot of them are rather involved projects, and since I am already working on one of those, the others will have to just live in my journals until I can get to them. Such is the paradox of being an artist...When you have the time, often the ideas are fleeting. When you have no time, they tumble down on you like there are a bunch of angry squirrels shaking the acorns out of the trees.
This is why I wrote everything down now ;) So, even if there is not any perceptible inspiration, I still have plenty of ideas... Here are a few things that are brewing in my brain:
- stationery sets
- hardcover journals and day planners featuring my art
- another FB giveaway
- a vehicle for my circus & side show series...short stories? I dunno...
So, yes, though I have been quiet online lately, I am still my crazy self, cooking up silly ideas, and tossing them in the air to see if they can fly or not...What, oh what, will come next?

Now, on to other things...I am currently working on my latest jester pin up illustration :) FINALLY! I feel like it's been forever, though in reality it has been but a few weeks. Also, I have ordered the precopy of my compilation "The Little Book of Zombie Limericks", and I simply CANNOT wait for it to show up in the mail so I can approve it! Once I have okay-ed it, I will be making it available to the public...So, hopefully very soon now! It is essentially all three volumes of my zombie limericks (you know, the ones available through my etsy shop here...), plus a sh*tload of new limericks and illustrations! Dudes, it's like 80 pages hahaha! I'm so psyched. :D
I spent all afternoon painting, it is so nice to have time for that LOL! Aside from the new jester piece, I am working on my ACEO series of women with dragons...which I really should get back to about now :)

So...I'm gonna ramble about my week now. You've been fairly warned ;)
on Tuesday, I had to go into work in the early morning...When I got there, I noticed a baby bird hopping around in the road. So, I scooped it up and moved it to safety. I know you are not technically supposed to touch wild baby animals, because I guess the scent of human on them is sometimes enough to make the parents abandon them...But I was *not* going to leave that poor little guy out in harms way. It wasn't hurt, and was certainly about "learning to fly" age. Plus, one of the parent birds was right there, screaming at me the whole time. When I went on break later in the day, the baby and parent were gone, so...I assumed the best (for once)...Plus, I got to hold a baby bird before work! They are sooo cute :)
This morning, I found myself downtown before work, so I ran a few errands, grabbed a cup of coffee, and headed to the cemetery to visit with my namesake (Ms. Emily Dickinson). Some of the grass in the front of the graveyard hadn't been mowed in quite some time, and it was long and brown (but not in a gross way). In that part of the cemetery, the tombstones are very old, many are cracked and crooked. It was so quintessential, and I was silently cursing myself for not having my camera with me. So, I had a nice peacefully creepy morning, writing zombie limericks with Ms Dickinson in the graveyard.
It's strange, though, that a town as busy as Amherst has a "dead spot" (pun intended) right in the center of the center...I don't go to cemeteries and hang out because its cool and slightly gothy...I might be a dork, but I am not a big enough dork to be a goth (sorry goths). I'm just me. I just like that it is peaceful, but not all that lonely. I like that there is history and secrets, and lives past. Plus, even those dead and gone, for so long that there is no one left alive to visit them, still deserve a visitor now and then.
And...that's my ramble.

Whoa...
It's been a rather weird day for me...started off in a not-so-good way, then progressed to minor frustrations, exhaustion, and near defeat, then to major incredulity and joy...I have to admit, I am pooped out and it's only 10pm! I still have to eat dinner, and do the dishes. At this point I am asking myself where in the heck my helper monkey is? Oh, right, I never did get around to acquiring one...Dang it!

So...I had an OMG moment when I checked my email after a long and slightly horrid day at work :) Awhile back, I had been contacted by someone from a project called the Poet's House Showcase, asking for a set of my "Little Books of Zombie Limericks" to put on display with a TON of other poetry books (all self published, by various artists/authors)...Well, the New York Times wrote a short article on the showcase, and they mentioned my silly little books! I am 100% floored. I cannot even begin to describe it. I might be walking around the whole rest of this week with my mouth agape in astonishment. I may not sleep much. I might laugh for no apparent reason. Freakin' WOW! Normally, I am not one to brag about things, especially one line shout outs, but I feel justified this time, because it's the NEW YORK TIMES!!! I have finished up my latest jester- she is Ice Cream themed- though I have yet to scan her in and get prints posted for sale. I will try my very best to get her up ASAP! She's very cute- a black haired harlequin, dreaming of ice cream cones :) Now I am pondering my next jester, and also the next addition to my Dragon Zodiac series (thinking about Taurus)...Also, working on getting more zombie limericks written for the compilation book...I wrote 18 of them last week, and thought with the other 27 plus illustrations that would be sufficient. However, I have since chosen to put a whole bunch more into the compilation book, so...Looks like I have my work cut out for me! Even though they are just silly little rhymes, it is actually rather difficult to make them work just right, and also make them funny (which, in my mind, is the cornerstone of any good limerick). At this point, I am afraid that I will run out of ideas. :( So...I might have to restock my Netflix list with LOTS and LOTS of "research material" aka zombie movies LOL!!

As usual, I am up to my eyeballs in work, but...I have gotten ALL of my illustrations 100% completed for the new zombie limericks! Woo!! Though I will never get into my head that it might be a good idea to create zombies in MODERATION, rather than working on them furiously in every spare minute I get for days at a time...It does make for some awfully strange dreams. LOL!!
Speaking of strange, I am plugging away at a bunch of ACEOs in my new circus/sideshow series. Many are still in the "pencil skritchings" stage, a few have been inked, and some even have a few layers of color. I couldn't decide which to start on first, so I am making both the circus and the sideshow, so, expect to see art ranging from carosel horses to the Fiji Mermaid, and all the weirdness in between very soon!

So, I have eighteen (YEAH!) new zombie limericks written, though I have yet to edit or illustrate them, so...it could be awhile before anyone reads them. I am also considering saving them for the compilation book, making that project their debut...However, like I said, (either way) it's a while off... This has nothing to do with anything other than my usual "biting off more than I can chew" attitude towards my creative endeavors. But this is how I seemingly never have any lapses in "inspiration"...There is always something in the work pile that will suit my mood, regardless of what that mood may be. Unfortunately, *tired* is not a mood, nor is it easy to motivate when one is sleepy...Like today LOL!! Though, after my writing frenzy, I did get started on a new (short) series of ACEOs. Since it is now approaching that disgustingly, deliriously warm and muggy weather, I have become nostalgic for the circus and the carnival...And that is what this latest series is based on! That's right, side show freaks a la Emily...You have been fairly warned. I'm not 100% sure when I will have any ready to post, but I will give the estimate of...End of this week, beginning of next. So, keep an eye out! Oh, yes, and my other, secret project is coming along slow and steady...But I'm still not telling what it is! Ha ha! Have a great week, all!

Oh, man...
Sorry about being lame and not posting anything for a week! :\ I've been gardening my butt off, getting ready for a craft fair, moving furniture around...Tons of random chores and errands! Ugh, just thinking about it all is making me tired! But...I did get to mall with my girlfriends, and go out for drinks this weekend, so...I did get some relaxation in :)
Unfortunately, I don't have anything brand new as far as art goes, but I do have some eBay auctions running right now that I had not posted previously...So I will update you all on those right now!
The first is an original ACEO illustration- "Over the Rainbow" is one of my new favorites! A pretty (and tasteful) nude, sitting on a fluffy cloud, under a rainbow. It's rather late in my neck of the woods...Well, it's late for me to be tinkering around online and posting stuff, but I'm not all that tired. Also, this post is partially an excuse to put off starting another project. Not that I don't *want* to create, I almost ALWAYS want to, but I am quite sure the focus just isn't there. Lately I have been trying to be mindful of not putting paint to canvas if I know I won;t give it the attention it deserves, in the hopes that I will begin to make more quality art and less mindless crap. Though I suppose that is a point of opinion and taste.

Apart from my current "climbing-out-of-a-rut" state, I have some new art to share...A brand new jester pin up, a little fairy ACEO painting, and another older collage piece, too!
First, the newest jester(ess)! I have a weak spot for all kinds of sorbet, raspberry in particular, so I thought I'd give a shout out to one of my favorite desserts with a pin up :) The title for this one is simply "Raspberry Sorbet" as I have not been feeling all that clever or witty of late...But at least it brings Prince's song to mind. She is a beautiful blond jester, sensually spooning a frozen scoop of raspberry sorbet into her mouth. She's even got a raspberry tattoo! So, as aforementioned, I am working my way out of a bit of a funk. It is not so much an inspiration problem as a motivational one- something I am not very familiar with and prefer not to be- ever. The pictures pile up in my head and in my numerous sketch books, but I seem to be having trouble getting them generated into actual art. I am blaming the beautiful weather and my multitude of work to get done in the gardens...Lots of yardwork to do, good stuff, but tiring! But for now, I am off to motivate and get my latest dragon painting worked on a bit more- there are work in progress photos up in my album on Facebook here if you would like to come by and see :)

I'll begin with the new raven painting, of course...I love this painting so much! It's titled "The Locket" and features one big raven flying off with a partially opened locket.
