I am completely exhausted, to the point of clumsiness and stupid mistake making- it's a joy, let me tell you...
So, I have FOUR new original illustrations this week- yes, I managed 4, it's a miracle! They are just quick little sketches on canvas paper, each one created in archival inks, pencils, and acrylic paints, and measuring 5" x 7". This is something I have been toying with for awhile now, researching print on demand puzzles for my images...but now Zazzle has them, and you all know how much I LOVE my Zazzle. It is kind of a stupid name to ahve to say that I love. Zazzle. Oy. Mmmm...how do you feel about my recently resurrected love of clowns? Is it working for you? Because I gotta say, it's awfully cathartic for me. I am so mentally frazzled lately, and I think it's because I have been very lax in my paperwork and online maintenance duties...the boss part of me has apparently gone out of town, and I don't know when she'll come back...so until then, I am just making piles and lists and mental notes...Even when I am not with the program, I still try to stay a little organized. Or maybe I am just fooling myself...only time will tell! We should know by next week LOL!

So, first, the new art! I have been working on and off on this piece for over a week now...It's taken me virtually forever to get her done! I'm not used to taking so long on one piece, but I think she came out splendidly...
"Psychopomps" is an original 5" x 7" illustration, in acrylic paints and inks, featuring a lovely angel winged fairy and a bunch of sparrows. The title is a greek word meaning "soul guide", and sparrows happen to be one of the specific animals that help guide peoples' souls from one plane of existence to another...

What else...Oh, yes! A new product from me, through my Zazzle shop! BINDERS!! YaY! As it is nearly time for school again, I thought I'd better hop on the binder band wagon and get some made up! I have a few options to choose from- two different zombie binders, and a dragon binder! And a reminder, as it is almost August 15th...and on the 15th, I will be holding my 15% off all orders sale, in my darklingemily etsy shop! As for projects, I am in the mode of getting my zombie compilation book formatted- there are a few final touches on illustrations that need to be completed, but...hopefully I will have this baby ready to rock out before Halloween! The original deadline (yes, I do set deadlines for myself LOL!) was end of August; however, I have been at work (at my "real" job) A LOT and haven't had all the time I thought I would...But, such is life. :) I am also working on a new series of ACEOs, which may not be released until my Circus & Side Show series is complete (which may actually be the end of this month)...But, this new series is based off of one of my recent ACEOs, "Too Tired to Fly"...Here is a pic of her:
Each ACEO in the new series will have a beautiful woman and a dragon. I have them all sketched out in pencil, waiting for ink and paint :) But, first I must complete my other series LOL!! Not to mention my jester series (which is ongoing) and my poor, neglected dragon zodiac series...:( So...I suppose I better get back to the grind!

This is gonna be a pretty lame post, because I am exhausted and have a bit of a headache. Too much sun, not enough water, too much worrying, not enough relaxing. Ah, life.

So, yes, I am not feeling 100% today. I haven't been feeling all that great for a few days now, but am trying to muddle through. I have definitely bitten off more than I can chew, so I may be kind of quiet for a bit, until I work out all my projects...At the moment, I am still working on the zombie limericks. Almost done writing, then to illustrate, format, and so forth until I am pleased with the finished product. Of course, I will still be listing regular eBay auctions, though they will mostly be ACEOs...I have no idea when I will get to my next jester,or a new zodiac dragon, or anything else for that matter...*Sigh* I need more hours in the day. I need more days in the week. I am not going to be acquiring either of those things any time soon...

So, I have eighteen (YEAH!) new zombie limericks written, though I have yet to edit or illustrate them, so...it could be awhile before anyone reads them. I am also considering saving them for the compilation book, making that project their debut...However, like I said, (either way) it's a while off... This has nothing to do with anything other than my usual "biting off more than I can chew" attitude towards my creative endeavors. But this is how I seemingly never have any lapses in "inspiration"...There is always something in the work pile that will suit my mood, regardless of what that mood may be. Unfortunately, *tired* is not a mood, nor is it easy to motivate when one is sleepy...Like today LOL!! Though, after my writing frenzy, I did get started on a new (short) series of ACEOs. Since it is now approaching that disgustingly, deliriously warm and muggy weather, I have become nostalgic for the circus and the carnival...And that is what this latest series is based on! That's right, side show freaks a la Emily...You have been fairly warned. I'm not 100% sure when I will have any ready to post, but I will give the estimate of...End of this week, beginning of next. So, keep an eye out! Oh, yes, and my other, secret project is coming along slow and steady...But I'm still not telling what it is! Ha ha! Have a great week, all!

hmmm...what else...Oh! Well, I should inform you all that I have taken on a dinky part time job, on top of my first dinky part time job as a gardener, so now, magically, I am working full time on top of making art to share! This was a necessary evil, and I feel obliged to warn you that I may not be cranking out the art as fast as I was previously. I just didn't want anyone to worry about where I have gone to :) I think for now, my new art will be on the small side, mostly ACEOs and 5" x 7" illustrations, with a few larger paintings speckled in here and there when I have the time. Of course, there is always art up in both my darklingemily etsy shop and my zombietoes etsy shop to look at and purchase, and I will remain open to commissions as well. Also, this should not affect shipping in any way, and you will receive your orders as promptly as ever :)
With all the craziness, and also having a major side project in the works, I have yet to update my website galleries and news :( I am going to try *really* hard to get that done, as I have not updated since April! I feel like I should have been far more productive this month. I'm blaming it on the fact that I've spent a lot of time tending to the gardens. I didn't even update my website galleries this month! I suck! Well, I suppose it can wait til June, and there will just be a lot more new art up there!

My motivation to get new art out of my sketchbook and onto canvas/paper has been somewhat low lately- not that I don't LOVE to create, but I do feel some interesting changes coming on, as far as my art goes. I've been in more of a pen and ink mood, and cartoons, too, and have been puttering around with some new Ralphie stuff, and some other cartoon creatures :) Very few final projects though. :\ However, I do have one brand new painting up in my darklingemily etsy shop! This piece is titled "Lurking Dawn" (thanks to Rebecca Brown Martinez for the title- you can check out her etsy shop here- TCsoApCo!)- a dragon perched on some strange plant, in my silhouette style...It is an original 11" x 14" acrylic painting, on gallery wrapped canvas (sides are 3/4" and painted black)- so it is ready to hang! The fair runs from 8am to 2pm, and there will be vendors of all sorts, a plant sale/swap, pancakes, and a giant tag sale! It's sort of hard to draw when you have gardener's hands...
After about 40 applications of lotion, they are now moving like hands, and not like metal clamps covered in paper...Sometimes I forget to put lotion on, like last night, and I just start drawing. Not the best idea; I messed up two small pieces so terribly, I just put them right in the recycling basket. There was no fixing them. What a travesty. I wonder if it had anything to do with the dry-skin-sliding-across-paper felling- it is a lot like nails on a chalkboard to me. Ugh :) Of course, I do have some art worthy of sharing today! Another new dragon painting, a fairy ACEO, and another older illustration up for auction.
So, this newest dragon painting is titled "Nightengale"- a pale gray dragon, with purple spots, watches twilight descend from a strange, dark flowerstalk...I don't really know what it is about this piece that immediately makes me smell flowers, but it does. Happy Weekend!
It's rather late in my neck of the woods...Well, it's late for me to be tinkering around online and posting stuff, but I'm not all that tired. Also, this post is partially an excuse to put off starting another project. Not that I don't *want* to create, I almost ALWAYS want to, but I am quite sure the focus just isn't there. Lately I have been trying to be mindful of not putting paint to canvas if I know I won;t give it the attention it deserves, in the hopes that I will begin to make more quality art and less mindless crap. Though I suppose that is a point of opinion and taste.
All rambling aside, I have two new pieces to share! A new installation to my "Inkling" dragon series, and a brand new jester pin up! Also, a handful of new ACEO auctions on eBay ;)
"Inkling 4- Summer Night" is the new dragon piece- A spotted dragon and a fairy in a little red dress are up late in the summer night...fireflies surround them as they chat in the mysterious darkness that is summer! Well, I've got a handful of art to share (finally!)- two mermaid pieces, one new and one older ACEO, plus a slightly naughty fairy illustration, and zodiac dragon t shirts!
I will start with the brand new mermaid painting- "Bashful Octopus" is an original acrylic painting, featuring a mermaid making friends with a shy little octopus! It's super cute, playful, and very colorful! This is a smaller painting, at just 5" x 7" on a sheet of artist canvas (unstretched). "Sweet Sisters" is a mixed media illustration; two mermaid sisters are just relaxing int he clear ocean waters, playing with their hair, and probably gossiping :) This small work of art (3.5" x 2.5") is listed for auction on eBay, with a starting bid of just 99 cents! Now...for the "naughty" fairy illustration- this is another addition to my weird sports-that-aren't-really-sports series, which I have chosen to call "Extracurricular"...Meet the "Wet T Shirt Fairy"! She is an original 5" x 7" illustration, in archival inks, acrylic paint, and Prismacolor pencils...Be warned, there is some boobage (with nipples) because her t shirt is wet (duh!). So, the very first piece in my Dragon Zodiac series is Leo. As organized as I am, I have opted to just randomly create each zodiac sign as I see fit! None of this "start with number one (Aries) and go consecutively" crap. "Leo Dragon" features a maned orange dragon, with big blue-green eyes, perched on the glyph for Leo. A lion (the token animal for Leo) and the sun (Leo's ruling planet) appear in the background...This is a larger piece for me, at 8.5" x 11" on bristol...I've decided to try out my mixed media recipe of acrylic paints, archival inks, and Prismacolor pencils (very similar components to my jester pin ups). In other news, I have updated my website galleries for this month! Lots of new images in the Fantasy Art Gallery and a few new ones in the Miscellaneous Art Gallery too! All of the new pictures are at the top of the page, and are marked "NEW" so you can find them easily! There are limited edition art prints and posters available for each image- just click on the small pictures, at it will bring you to the individual pages, where you can read about the piece, and view/purchase prints and posters. I've been spending a bunch of time in the garden lately; mostly weeding, cleaning up brush, and edging. The rose bushes are growing fast, as are the irises and of course a million lillies! Nothing has really bloomed quite yet, aside from the weeping cherry tree and the forsythias, and a few daffodils and tulips which are scattered across the lawn. Oh, yes, and tons of grape hyacinth! They just grow right out of the lawn. I didn't plant them that way, they must have been planted by my grandmother years ago, and have decided to migrate. So, it has been a little slower in the studio lately, because I know if I don't get to gardening, I'll end up with a jungle of weeds! But, I am also working on a painting commission, and the next Dragon Zodiac- Scorpio! I must admit, I am about two steps away from losing my mind, but...I just have to remind myself to breathe, and that everything will eventually even out again...

Just a quick post tonight, I am totally pooped out from gardening all day...and thinking about how much more I still have to do...I could seriously fall asleep right here at my keyboard.
