"Pris-tend" Original rework FINISHED! Plus a great song and a ramble about the painting process...

Ah, hello!

So...another whole month has passed, with nary an update from me. Man, I used to be so on top of this blog. I used to be so on top of my art. I was just sitting here, pondering on the quality of my art versus the economy...basically, I have frustrations regarding my improved work and how much I used to make off my art 'back in the day'. It's aggravating, because I feel I've grown so much as an artist, though if you looked at it from a financial perspective, it would appear that I am in fact SUCKING MORE than I ever have. Thankfully, that is not the case...and while I may currently be disturbingly broke, I KNOW that my art is better than it ever was. I am sure there are many of us that feel similar.

Blahblahblah, sorry for that ramble. I have taken to typing up whatever is in my head these days, regardless if it is on point with my main goal. I have taken to doing a lot of things differently these days...

SO...anyhoooo...Basically I have been working on lots of goodness and hilarity over at Dorkling (a comic) and have not really felt like being online much. Or inside. But I did manage to finish up my latest painting- the rework of "Pris"- a fantasy portrait of my very magical friend! I have titled the new version "Pris-tend"- a name/word meaning to pretend (or dream, play, make believe) in such a manner as to manifest magic in the souls of other creatures. Awe, Pris, I love you so much I made up a new word! Hahaha! Now, here is the song to go along with the painting, one of my very VERY favorite songs, for one of the most beautiful people in the whole wide world:

My thoughts were with all my friends while I worked on this piece, specifically all those people who I have met online, and never once in person. There are...a number of special people that I would have never known existed if it weren't for the interwebz. For me, friendship is not, and never was, about how pretty someone is, how much they can help me, how cool they are, or how much time I spend with them. Friendship is about feeling another person's heart, and accepting it for what it is. Sometimes I lose friends. Sometimes I gain friends. But whether here or there, near or far, plain or covered in condiments, I love all my friends. I do find that sometimes...it is easier to reach out to someone far away from my life, people unbiased to my daily routines, moods, and work schedule. I often feel more at ease with these folks because I...am a writer at heart, and that's pretty much how it works here in digital land. Hah. And another thing...if I DO know you in real life, and you happen to get a note or written correspondence from me...well...then I must have some deep stuff to say to you. Hahah. That, or I am just trying to avoid talking on the phone!! :)

So, without further adieu, the finished painting of "Pris-tend":

"Pris-tend" original fantasy portrait art

This piece is an original 8" x 10" acrylic painting on a canvas panel- she is up for auction on eBay at this link:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=321151895698
for seven days, with an ACEO print of the original illustration included in the auction:

(the original illustration)

If she does not find a new home this round, I will most likely relist her once on eBay, and then after that dhe will be FULL PRICE in my darklingemily etsy shop...so if you want to own her, now would be a less expensive time to get her!

In addition, she is available for an ACEO sponsorship- a new option I am offering through my website! You can read all about it here: Sponsor "Pris-tend" as an ACEO print (or another piece of Emily's art!)

So...that is about it for over here...if you need more Emily in your life than I am offering on this blog, you are MORE THAN WELCOME to check out my weekly comic strip over at dorklingcomic.blogspot.com for more ;) But...it's not this. Not by a long shot. And now you've been warned! I think I may rework "Bath Time" for next month...

Remember- more frequent updates, work in progress pictures, news, and such can be had here on my Facebook Page: Darkling Treasures on Facebook

A Sharp Dragon, plus Raspberries and Cream FB auction!

Well well, I hope you are doing well!

This is going to be a rather dragon-y post :) I thought I'd give the clowns a short break, though I am sure they will be back very very soon! I have a brand new dragon painting to share, as well as a new Facebook exclusive auction (also dragon-related!)
I know it's not a lot, but I'm trying to keep up with the posting :)

Most of my dragons are friendly creatures, though at times they can cause quite a bit of trouble, as dragons are prone to do. However, I happened to summon this angry little beastie the other day...I know he is not the most, uh, jovial creature, but perhaps you would consider adopting him just the same? This is an original 6" x 4" acrylic painting, titled "Shank". He is up for auction on eBay with a starting bid of just $15! To see the auction listing, and place a bid, please visit the link below the picture:

"Shank" original big eye dragon painting

Now, I also have new Facebook exclusive auction running, until tomorrow night...I know it is short notice, however, it seems there are still no bids on it, so I may extend it a few more days...in the meantime, details: this is a "Raspberry and Cream" color themed auction, featuring a handful of my lovely hand made goodies- a small journal, a pouch, a fabric charm, some paper tags, and an original mixed media dragon piece! Everything matches, it is quite a pretty set of goodies! The bidding starts at $0; more specifics and info on the items and how to place a bid are at the link below the picture (on my Facebook art page):

I will have a lot more to share over the next week, but for now I have to go relax for a bit, I am feeling a little bit drained.

Siamese Twins ACEO, Dragon painting auction, and The Hat!

whoopsies!
I went a little longer than planned between posts here, I hope you can forgive me! So, I do not have a *ton* of art to share tonight...A new Circus & Side Show ACEO, an older dragon piece up for auction, and a brand new painting, which I am in love with...

I have to start with the new painting, because I am excited and don't want to wait LOL! This is the first piece in a new series! The new series is essentially inspired by the simple joys in life, like stupid toys (kazoos, pinwheels...) and fun stuff like hats and balloons. It would be more helpful if I had a name for this series, but it has not come to me yet (open for suggestions? sure)...I just know winter is right around the corner, and got an attack of "OMG, everything's going to be white and grey for the next six months" anxiety, and started plotting out images in color color color! But...enough blabbering, let me show you the first piece in the series- "The Hat"! She is an ORIGINAL acrylic painting, measuring 7" x 14" (long and thin) on a piece of particle board...I know, it's not the most professional base I have used, however I have a ton of them and wanted to try painting on one. I get them from work, when I have to cut up the 50 lb. blocks of cheddar cheese. Anyway..."The Hat" is available for purchase in my darklingemily etsy shop, at the link below the picture:

"The Hat" original fantasy painting

In addition to the original painting, I have also put up posters of this painting in my zazzle shop at the link below- you can choose your size, paper/canvas type, and even get a custom frame if you like!
"The Hat" posters on Zazzle

Now, the newest Circus & Side Show ACEO! This one is "Siamese Twins"! I know, it took me forever to get to this one! Two pretty brunette sisters, literally joined at the hip (I think)...This original 2.5" x 3.5" illustration is up for auction on eBay, with a $5 starting bid...check out the link below the picture:

"Siamese Twins" original Circus and Side Show art

I also have a *special* auction running right now...well, it is only special because I have listed it at such a low price, as I am in dire need of some wall space in my studio..."Lurking Dawn" is up for auction, with a starting bid of only $25! This is an ORIGINAL acrylic painting, on gallery wrapped canvas (12" x 16"), featuring the black silhouette of a dragon, wings stretched upwards, perched on some strange, otherworldly foliage. I would absolutely be thrilled if any of you would like to add this painting to your collection, and help me get a little wall space to work with! To see the eBay listing, just click on the link below the picture:

"Lurking Dawn" original dragon silhouette fantasy art

So, that is about all for now. I am trying to get the rest of the writings for my circus and side show series finished by next week, so that I can edit them down (which I am sure they will need badly) and then I can start on the next phase...hee hee hee! Oh, yes, and before I got...commissions are open, if anyone should be interested in having me create a person piece! The holidays are creeping up on us, you know...Also, I just need you to know that I felt a little bit dirty saying that, so don't hate me for reminding you ;)

Circus & Side Show Giant, Dragon + Nymph ACEOs, and lots of ramblings :)

Good evening all!

So...I pretty much did eff-all this week. Okay, that is not true, but as far as art goes, I didn't make a whole heck of a lot. Been getting the gardens ready for winter, potting plants for indoors, working, filling orders, and trying not to fall asleep too early...Most nights I don't succeed at that last one.

I had a blast at the zombie pub crawl :) Got wasted and met a lot of zombies! I will have some pictures soon(ish) to share...But, seriously, this is why I don't go out all that often- because I have waaay too much fun, then it takes me two days or so to get back all my energy and bearings. So...I don't think I will be going out for Halloween. I will be working and then working some more.

I do have a few new pieces to share tonight- new ACEOs! The first is another Circus & Side Show piece- yes, they are still going strong! This one is "The Giant"- a big, goofy guy stands next to a regular, serious-looking fellow...This is an original illustration, ACEO sized at 2.5" x 3.5"...To see more, and perhaps even make a bid, just check out the link below the picture:

Also, two new dragon + Nymph ACEOs! "Dream of Blue" features a blue dragon and a pretty blond nymph...An original ACEO, up for auction on eBay with a $5 starting bid...To see more pictures, details, and to bid, just visit the link below the picture:

The other new dragon + nymph ACEO is titled "Midnight Monster", and features a beautiful white haired nymph and a small black dragon...off in the distance, a winged heart flies away...This is also an original illustration, and also up for auction with a starting bid of $5. To see more, just click the link below the picture:

I want to remind you all that the Half Off Sale is still going on in my zombietoes etsy shop until October 31! Everything is 50% off- prints, original art, Ralphies, Little Books of Zombie Limericks, EVERYTHING! Before I start to ramble mindlessly, let me show you the way to the sale:

Half Off Sale at zombietoes!!

As I had stated at the beginning of this post, I feel like I have done very little this week in the way of art. I have just been so low on energy. It does not help that the long days of summer are gone, and it is all cold and dark early now. I am getting my Mondays back soon, so I will have an extra day in the studio every week. Thank goodness! I have a ton of things to keep me busy here ;)

Lots of zombies, Halloween Dragon ACEO, public appearance, and some more zombies!

Okay...so...October is being pretty good to me so far, and for that I am thankful! Busy and a little overtired most days, but still, life is good.

Not a TON of art tonight, however most of it is Halloween/monster/zombie themed, so...'tis the season ;} I have a brand new dragon + nymph ACEO (halloween!), a few ghoulish new creations in my zombietoes etsy shop, information about a public appearance (yes! ME! IN PUBLIC! AHHH!!!), and more...read on, my friends, read on...

I will begin with the brand new original ACEO- "Halloween Night" is the latest in my Dragon + Nymph ACEO series...Halloween is upon us, do you have your costume ready? This original 2.5" x 3,5" fantasy illustration is up for auction on eBay, with a starting bid of only $5! To see more details and pictures, and perhaps even place a bid, just click on the link below the picture:

Now...There is a lot of zombie news below, so if you are not a fan of the zombies, I suggest you look away...

Alrighty then...First on the zombie menu, some art (yay)! I have listed some new grossness in my zombietoes etsy shop...A one of a kind, hand sculpted Deathbox, complete with two little zombie magnets inside! This Deathbox is the second one I've ever made. They are pseudo- necronomiconesque, with the stretched faces, real stitching, and subtle painted accents...totally disgusting. I love them! So, this one is available at the link below the picture, and it happens to be half price for my sale this month!

Deathbox with two zombie magnets- on SALE!

The other new piece of zombie art I have listed is an original 8" x 10 painting, titled "Zombie Love". This is in my stark silhouette style, with an abstract background. I painted this piece awhile back, but there was something about it...wasn;t sure what, for the longest time...Now I know what it was. But I'm not telling. Anyway, it's listed now, and it's also half price for my sale....visit the link below for more info and perhaps even to add it to your collection:

"Zombie Love" original silhouette painting

Now, onto other zombie news...I am very happy to announce that "The Little Book of Zombie Limericks" is now available on Amazon.com!! It is the same price as on lulu.com and everywhere else, nothing fancy about it, just another venue for inquiring eyes. You know...At any rate, here's the link:

And should you prefer the lulu link, it is here:

And, now, for the finale of zombie news...I will be out and about in zombie get-up this Saturday (10/23) for the Northampton Zombie Pub Crawl!! W00T! I will be laden with free zombie goodies to pass out to the undead masses...If you are interested in going, all the information is on the Facebook Page below the flyer picture:

Northampton Zombie Pub Crawl Facebook Page and Info

I have no idea how long I will be out for, or what time exactly, or if you would even recognize me if you saw me...I have a pretty good idea of what I want my makeup to look like (it's pretty minimal, like a recently turned zombie...some veins and dark eyes, maybe a gash or two...I dunno)...But, yes, if you come out and you find me, I will give you zombie presents!

That's a lot of zombie. Dang. Well, thanks for putting up with all that, and I hope you don't despise me for it. I've got to go have a brownie and get some relaxing done!

And lastly, before I run back off to my desk and continue my latest creation...From now until October 15th, "The Little Book of Zombie Limericks" - the compilation book- is 15% when you use the code FALLREAD305 at checkout!! Woo hoo, just in time for autumn! Check out the link below to order your copy today (and don't forget to use the code!)

"The Little Book of Zombie Limericks" compilation book- 15% off until October 15th!

I've just completed a commission piece (for more information about how to commission me, just click HERE), and also have been working on some random art the past few days- none of them are really part of a series or project, they are just stand alone pieces. It's been awhile since I've done this, and I find myself to be a little bit lost...but because I have no parameters at all, it allows me to "just do" and see what happens...ah, how quaint and ideal. Heh heh heh. It's nice, though, to just 'make' to make. Right now, I'm gonna go make some cookies and then more art!

Dragon Sorceress Art, Bird + Nymph girl ACEO, RALPHIE Facebook Exclusive auction, project news, and a little rambling!

Hope you all had a wonderful weekend...:)

After much inner debate, I decided to get off my lazy tukas and get a blog post up! Actually, not lazy, per se, just taking a few hours in the evening to relax a bit, and get some mental sorting done...

Blah blah! I have two new original ACEOs to share, and a bunch of new 99 cent print auctions as well! Plus, a new Facebook Exclusive auction, an update on some projects, and a bit of mindless chatter!

So...on with it then. I have two brand new ACEO illustrations to share! The first new original ACEO is titled "Serpentine Sorceress"- a powerful dark haired woman and her two dragons are gathering magic...beware! This piece is also up for auction on eBay, with a starting bid of just $5! To see more, and perhaps even make a bid, just visit the link below the picture:

The other is "For Her Crown" features a sweet young lady (in a polka dot dress) and a beautiful 'fancy' bird. This original 2.5" x 3.5" fantasy illustration is up for auction on eBay, with a starting bid of only $5! You can read more details about this piece, see more pictures, and even make a bid at the link below the picture:

Speaking of auctions, I have put up another Facebook Exclusive Auction HERE on my fan page! It is for a set of hand made Ralphie items- specifically a plush Ralphie, a polymer clay sculpted Ralphie, and an original painted Ralphie ACEO! All the information on how to bid (and more about the items and such) is at the auction listing, and this auction ends on Friday, September 10, 2010, at midnight (EST).
The link below the picture will take you directly to the Ralphie auction:

Now, on to other things...I am currently working on my latest jester pin up illustration :) FINALLY! I feel like it's been forever, though in reality it has been but a few weeks. At any rate, she is a Red Velvet Cake Jester, still pondering a title, and you can see the work in progress pics in my Facebook album here:

Jester Work In Progress pictures

Also, I have ordered the precopy of my compilation "The Little Book of Zombie Limericks", and I simply CANNOT wait for it to show up in the mail so I can approve it! Once I have okay-ed it, I will be making it available to the public...So, hopefully very soon now! It is essentially all three volumes of my zombie limericks (you know, the ones available through my etsy shop here...), plus a sh*tload of new limericks and illustrations! Dudes, it's like 80 pages hahaha! I'm so psyched. :D

I spent all afternoon painting, it is so nice to have time for that LOL! Aside from the new jester piece, I am working on my ACEO series of women with dragons...which I really should get back to about now :)

Majea Returns fantasy art, Bearded Lady circus ACEO, 99 cent print auctions, PSP tube contest, + more!

Oh, another week gone by with only one blog post! How is this continuing to happen?!? You must accept my heartfelt apologies. I feel so bad.

At any rate, I do have some new art to share, some new 99 cent ACEO Print auctions running, a contest, and reminder to get your bids in on my FB exclusive auction...it ends tomorrow!

As always, I will begin with the new art! I have a brand new fantasy ACEO original up for auction on eBay- "Majea Returns"...Majea is a character I created years ago, and she happened to pop back into my life recently, unannounced, and a little mad at me for forgetting all about her. I promised her I'd make amends, so...she is being included in my secret project. Which makes this ACEO auction extra special for collectors! "Majea Returns" has a $5 starting bid; to see the auction listing, and perhaps make a bid, just click on the link below her picture:

Also brand new, and original, is my latest in the Circus & Side Show series- the Bearded Lady! This original 2.5" x 3.5" illustration is created in archival inks and acrylic paints on bristol. She is also up for auction on eBay, with a starting bid of just $5! To see her listing, read more about her, and make a bid, just visit the link below her picture:

For those of you who are not familiar with Ralphie, he is my adorable, silly, comforting little cartoon bird character...here's a picture of him in one of his many forms:

Oh, yes, and the good folks over at MyTagArt are having their 1st birthday!! Complete with many contests, freebies, and prizes! If you are interested in getting some awesome goodies, you will have to join thier forum, but it is quick, painless, and free of course! They are running a bunch of different contests, with assorted prizes, but there is one specifically designed for me, and the grand prize is an original 8" x 10" dragon painting by yours truly! What else what else...Sorry to bog y'all down with all this new stuff. This is why I feel bad about not having more time to post during the week. Oh! Yes! I have (finally) updated my website- darklingtreasures.com with a bunch of new images (all are available as prints/posters) in the galleries, and have even created a brand new gallery for my circus art! In doing the latest updates, I was realizing that my website does need a lot of touching up and reorganizing...so that will be happening over the next few months. Goodbye sleep, hello working to the bone! ahahahahahaha...and, as you can see, the delirium has already begun to set in...
But no worries, I will be fine. I'd rather be eyeball deep in projects than bored silly.

Rose Mermaid art, New Circus ACEO, and Fairy + Dragon!

Hello lovelies!

This is gonna be a pretty lame post, because I am exhausted and have a bit of a headache. Too much sun, not enough water, too much worrying, not enough relaxing. Ah, life.

I have a few new ACEOs listed, all of them are original ink and acrylic illustrations, and all have starting bids of just $5!
The first is "Dragon Lily"- a tiny blue dragon is curled up in a bright day lily, and a fairy has just found his hiding spot! The link to the auction listing is below the picture:

"Dragon Lily" original fantasy ACEO

The other new fantasy ACEO I have up is a rose flavored mermaid! I have no idea where this one came from, but she sure is pretty! Her listing link is also below the picture:

"Relaxing Rose" original mermaid illustration

And, finally, my latest circus & side shoe ACEO- "The Contortionist"- by now, you may have noticed a color theme going on with this series...All primaries, plus ochre, brown, black, and white. I thought it would be a challenge to give myself some boundaries for once, and dang was I right! LOL! To see the auction listing for this ACEO, just visit the link below the picture:

So, yes, I am not feeling 100% today. I haven't been feeling all that great for a few days now, but am trying to muddle through. I have definitely bitten off more than I can chew, so I may be kind of quiet for a bit, until I work out all my projects...At the moment, I am still working on the zombie limericks. Almost done writing, then to illustrate, format, and so forth until I am pleased with the finished product. Of course, I will still be listing regular eBay auctions, though they will mostly be ACEOs...I have no idea when I will get to my next jester,or a new zodiac dragon, or anything else for that matter...*Sigh* I need more hours in the day. I need more days in the week. I am not going to be acquiring either of those things any time soon...

New ACEOs- Reading Pin Up + Purple Daze mermaid, New Zazzle items + sale, + Scavenger Hunt details

Oh, how the time flies!

As you may have guessed, I have some new art tonight, as well as some new products in my Zazzle shop!

For the new art, I have two new ACEOs (Art Cards, Editions, and Originals) up for auction on eBay. The first is a little pin up illustration, of a pretty girl reading a book..."Studious" is an original illustration, in acrylic paints and inks, up for auction with a starting bid of just 99 cents! To see her listing, and perhaps make a bid, just visit the link below her picture:

"Studious" original pin up ACEO illustration

The other new ACEO is one you may find a bit familiar- I made a tank top of "Purple Daze" about a week ago, and put it up in my Zazzle shop. Now, you can own the original illustration- she is also up for auction on eBay, with a starting bid of 99 cents! To see more, and make a bid, just check out the link below her picture:

There are new things in my Zazzle shop as well! For instance, stickers featuring the dragon for my "Inkling 3- Pedestal" painting, and tote bags with my "Monarch" big eye dragon image on them! To see all the new items I have put up, just follow the link below the picture:

New items in Emily's Zazzle Shop!

Also, Zazzle is holding a 4th of July sale- 17.76% off all orders (From now through Monday)- just use the code ZAZZLEUSAUSA when you check out to get the discount!

Now, to give you a little update of the Blogmanina Scavenger Hunt:

Tomorrow (Thursday, July 1), the Blogmania Scavenger Hunt will begin; by participating, you could win a $100 gift certificate to a participating shop of your choice!! I will be posting the complete list of shops tomorrow...Remember, you have to find this image in every shop listed:

I will also be posting a hint as to where in *my* shop I have hidden this image, and more information...But if you *just cannot wait* to start the hunt, there is a sneak peek of the shops on The Clever Mommy's Blog!

As usual, I am up to my eyeballs in work, but...I have gotten ALL of my illustrations 100% completed for the new zombie limericks! Woo!! Though I will never get into my head that it might be a good idea to create zombies in MODERATION, rather than working on them furiously in every spare minute I get for days at a time...It does make for some awfully strange dreams. LOL!!

Speaking of strange, I am plugging away at a bunch of ACEOs in my new circus/sideshow series. Many are still in the "pencil skritchings" stage, a few have been inked, and some even have a few layers of color. I couldn't decide which to start on first, so I am making both the circus and the sideshow, so, expect to see art ranging from carosel horses to the Fiji Mermaid, and all the weirdness in between very soon!
