I'm back and I brought a Clown with me!!

Well, Hi, I'm back!

Couldn't stay away forever, though at times it would make my life more simple...:) I am currently in the act of accepting that I have more than one artistic style, and both are valid and deserving of expression. So, I've decided to step back into the fantasy realm from time to time...plotting on releasing one new fantasy piece a month! Hopefully I won't punk out and go back on these plans ;) Gah! The life of an artist...had I known...perhaps I would have gone to college (hahahahaha). Well...I really have no poetic words of wisdom, but I will say this- it is just ridiculously stupid to deny who you are, even if who you are is a complete and utter lunatic.
Okay, art time, then...Here is my newest Darkling painting- "Scribbles the Clown" (aka My Clown Face).

This is an ACTUAL portrait of my face, taken from a photo of me in my Halloween costume. Hmmmm, well, it USED to be *just* a Halloween costume, but I've taken a liking to wearing it while drinking and talking shit. Sometimes, I like to wear it and PRETEND I am drunk, but really I am soberly talking shit. (What? You'd really hit a drunken girl clown with glasses? Shame on you!! :P)

So...Yes, back to "being a professhunal"- there will be one new fantasy piece a month, some sort of crazy blog ramble to go along with the new art, and then posters and prints shortly after each new release :) And of course, website updates and such. I tried to quit painting mermaid boobs, I really tried...but you know, it's just not worth the cost, to NOT do it. ;)

Siamese Twins ACEO, Dragon painting auction, and The Hat!

whoopsies!
I went a little longer than planned between posts here, I hope you can forgive me! So, I do not have a *ton* of art to share tonight...A new Circus & Side Show ACEO, an older dragon piece up for auction, and a brand new painting, which I am in love with...

I have to start with the new painting, because I am excited and don't want to wait LOL! This is the first piece in a new series! The new series is essentially inspired by the simple joys in life, like stupid toys (kazoos, pinwheels...) and fun stuff like hats and balloons. It would be more helpful if I had a name for this series, but it has not come to me yet (open for suggestions? sure)...I just know winter is right around the corner, and got an attack of "OMG, everything's going to be white and grey for the next six months" anxiety, and started plotting out images in color color color! But...enough blabbering, let me show you the first piece in the series- "The Hat"! She is an ORIGINAL acrylic painting, measuring 7" x 14" (long and thin) on a piece of particle board...I know, it's not the most professional base I have used, however I have a ton of them and wanted to try painting on one. I get them from work, when I have to cut up the 50 lb. blocks of cheddar cheese. Anyway..."The Hat" is available for purchase in my darklingemily etsy shop, at the link below the picture:

Now, the newest Circus & Side Show ACEO! This one is "Siamese Twins"! I know, it took me forever to get to this one! Two pretty brunette sisters, literally joined at the hip (I think)...This original 2.5" x 3.5" illustration is up for auction on eBay, with a $5 starting bid...check out the link below the picture:

Set of TWO mixed media fairy ACEOs

So, details are at the above link, but just for funzies, let me try to sell you...;) I had a short spell of mixed media madness last week, and made a few fantasy collage ACEOs. This is a set of TWO original fairy ACEOs, in my signature mixed media style...something I have not done in awhile! I do not foresee making a ton of these little treasures this year, so if you have wanted one, now is a good time! I used to make these all the time, but at this juncture in my "art life" I am trying out other things. But...lots of texture, color, depth, and detail in these tiny worlds! I promise, if you like fantasy art at all, these will not disappoint you. :)

This is gonna be a pretty lame post, because I am exhausted and have a bit of a headache. Too much sun, not enough water, too much worrying, not enough relaxing. Ah, life.

So, yes, I am not feeling 100% today. I haven't been feeling all that great for a few days now, but am trying to muddle through. I have definitely bitten off more than I can chew, so I may be kind of quiet for a bit, until I work out all my projects...At the moment, I am still working on the zombie limericks. Almost done writing, then to illustrate, format, and so forth until I am pleased with the finished product. Of course, I will still be listing regular eBay auctions, though they will mostly be ACEOs...I have no idea when I will get to my next jester,or a new zodiac dragon, or anything else for that matter...*Sigh* I need more hours in the day. I need more days in the week. I am not going to be acquiring either of those things any time soon...

I have finished up my latest jester- she is Ice Cream themed- though I have yet to scan her in and get prints posted for sale. I will try my very best to get her up ASAP! She's very cute- a black haired harlequin, dreaming of ice cream cones :) Now I am pondering my next jester, and also the next addition to my Dragon Zodiac series (thinking about Taurus)...Also, working on getting more zombie limericks written for the compilation book...I wrote 18 of them last week, and thought with the other 27 plus illustrations that would be sufficient. However, I have since chosen to put a whole bunch more into the compilation book, so...Looks like I have my work cut out for me! Even though they are just silly little rhymes, it is actually rather difficult to make them work just right, and also make them funny (which, in my mind, is the cornerstone of any good limerick). At this point, I am afraid that I will run out of ideas. :( So...I might have to restock my Netflix list with LOTS and LOTS of "research material" aka zombie movies LOL!!

As usual, I am up to my eyeballs in work, but...I have gotten ALL of my illustrations 100% completed for the new zombie limericks! Woo!! Though I will never get into my head that it might be a good idea to create zombies in MODERATION, rather than working on them furiously in every spare minute I get for days at a time...It does make for some awfully strange dreams. LOL!!

Speaking of strange, I am plugging away at a bunch of ACEOs in my new circus/sideshow series. Many are still in the "pencil skritchings" stage, a few have been inked, and some even have a few layers of color. I couldn't decide which to start on first, so I am making both the circus and the sideshow, so, expect to see art ranging from carosel horses to the Fiji Mermaid, and all the weirdness in between very soon!
