Well, I skipped last week's post entirely...:\ Got all distracted with things and stuff, you know, the usual...But I have new (and very special) art to share today! The Nurse Mermaid piece I have been talking about has been completed and listed for auction, plus I have some cute monster wallets I sewed up last week! AND MORE PILLOWS!! :D
I will start with the mermaid piece- She is titled "Nurse Mermaid" and is shown here caring for two nurse sharks! I created this piece specifically to auction off for a donation to my dear friend Becca, who had some recent and unexpected financial issues (health related). I love her SO MUCH and unfortunately am in no position other than auctioning off art to help her. And sending her lots of love and support, of course! NOW...Awhile back I posted some pictures of the Monster Bag I made for myself...and I LOVE IT SO MUCH! It is holding up really well (and trust me, I USE my bags), and also getting a lot of comments...so I decided to make up a few small wallet versions to offer to you! There are three right now- a red one, a blue one, and a purple one, and they are SO ADORABLE!! Top zipper closure, fun inside linings, credit card pockets, a little pocket for change... I know, I just went a whole week without posting a blog. :\ Truth is, there really wan't much to write about...until now! LOL!
I have some new ACEO auctions listed on eBay (of course!) and also a special treat for all you comic lovers! But first, I will start with the ACEOs...
Continuing my Circus & Side Show series with "Carousel Horse"- an original ACEO illustration (2.5" x 3.5"- acrylic and inks)- the carousel is my favorite ride. I know it's not the most exciting thing, but it's the decadence of the carousel that I love more than the motion of it. Now that you have patiently waited for me to run down my list of new art, I will share with you something funny! Occasionally, I will get the urge to draw up a comic strip (or in this case, a block) of things I find funny...These comics are probably not universally funny, but they help me deal with the idiocy I encounter in daily life. Lately, the idiocy has been rampant, so I may be doing a bunch more of these...They are not the best art in the world, just quick little sketches, but I try to get the body language as close to reality as I can...It's great therapy for me, and reminds me how important having a good sense of humor is, and also that I am not a one trick pony. So, with all that being said, I give to you...a comic:
Any questions, input, comments are welcome. I would like to expand on this comic idea, and perhaps if I get enough of them drawn up, I will put them in a hand bound book for posterity (and also for listing in one of my etsy shops, which are sorely neglected of late)...
Speaking of my etsy shop...I am having an impromptu SUPER SALE in my darklingemily etsy shop! I've dropped my original art prices *a lot*- for instance, every 5" x 7" original painting is now marked at just $10 (from $32), and every 8" x 10" original painting is marked down to $25 (from $55)!! I have been busting arse lately, and so far, so good...I haven't burnt out...yet! LOL! Of course, my garden is suffering *just a little bit* with all the time I have not put into it this week, however...other things must be taken care of. Nature, you are going to have to fend for yourself for a little bit, and try not to grow too many weeds in my flower bed...(sure, sure).

I am currently staring into the eyes of a 6 day work week, on top of my art projects...So, all of you who happen to have the weekend off, please ENJOY it for me!!! I will be working while hopefully writing some new zombie limericks in my head ;) It is way beyond time for volume #4...I am also considering putting ALL of the limericks and illustrations into one book...But that is still a ways off, as I would like to get some more written especially for the combined collection ;)

Oh...May is over! Crap!
I feel like I should have been far more productive this month. I'm blaming it on the fact that I've spent a lot of time tending to the gardens. I didn't even update my website galleries this month! I suck! Well, I suppose it can wait til June, and there will just be a lot more new art up there!

My motivation to get new art out of my sketchbook and onto canvas/paper has been somewhat low lately- not that I don't LOVE to create, but I do feel some interesting changes coming on, as far as my art goes. I've been in more of a pen and ink mood, and cartoons, too, and have been puttering around with some new Ralphie stuff, and some other cartoon creatures :) Very few final projects though. :\ However, I do have one brand new painting up in my darklingemily etsy shop! This piece is titled "Lurking Dawn" (thanks to Rebecca Brown Martinez for the title- you can check out her etsy shop here- TCsoApCo!)- a dragon perched on some strange plant, in my silhouette style...It is an original 11" x 14" acrylic painting, on gallery wrapped canvas (sides are 3/4" and painted black)- so it is ready to hang! One last important tidbit of info before I go...This Saturday, June 5, I will be out IN PERSON selling my art and other assorted goodies (prints, bookmarks, ACEOs, etc)...I will be at the Spring Craft Fair, located at the Wesley United Methodist Church in Hadley, MA. The fair runs from 8am to 2pm, and there will be vendors of all sorts, a plant sale/swap, pancakes, and a giant tag sale! I will be outside, at a small table loaded with my paintings and such, so come on by and see me! And bring all your filthy rich friends who love art LOL!! Let me see...I've got the latest zodiac dragon to share today, along with two new mermaids! I've been in a bit of a mermaid mood lately, if you couldn't tell! :)
First, though, allow me to unveil the "Gemini Dragon" illustration! A two headed, double winged, dual colored dragon, with big purple eyes! I'm very pleased with how this particular beast turned out- it was a bit of a challenge to put two heads on one body! A very special friend was the inspiration for the purple eyes- gothic and fantasy artisan Natalie VonRaven (who happens to be a Gemini herself)! It's sort of hard to draw when you have gardener's hands...
After about 40 applications of lotion, they are now moving like hands, and not like metal clamps covered in paper...Sometimes I forget to put lotion on, like last night, and I just start drawing. Not the best idea; I messed up two small pieces so terribly, I just put them right in the recycling basket. There was no fixing them. What a travesty. I wonder if it had anything to do with the dry-skin-sliding-across-paper felling- it is a lot like nails on a chalkboard to me. Ugh :) Of course, I do have some art worthy of sharing today! Another new dragon painting, a fairy ACEO, and another older illustration up for auction.
So, this newest dragon painting is titled "Nightengale"- a pale gray dragon, with purple spots, watches twilight descend from a strange, dark flowerstalk...I don't really know what it is about this piece that immediately makes me smell flowers, but it does. It's rather late in my neck of the woods...Well, it's late for me to be tinkering around online and posting stuff, but I'm not all that tired. Also, this post is partially an excuse to put off starting another project. Not that I don't *want* to create, I almost ALWAYS want to, but I am quite sure the focus just isn't there. Lately I have been trying to be mindful of not putting paint to canvas if I know I won;t give it the attention it deserves, in the hopes that I will begin to make more quality art and less mindless crap. Though I suppose that is a point of opinion and taste.

I've got two new dragon paintings to share with you all! Plus, a reminder about my Facebook exclusive art giveaway!
Dragons first, though. :) "Ladybug Dragons" is a new original painting- I really like this one; it is sometimes difficult for me to work in red, without having it become too overwhelming in the overall piece, but I think this painting came out well :) It features two little black dragons, but instead of dragon wings, these two beasties have ladybug wings!
