Bun Bun the Clown, Fairy Art gift boxes, ACEO cards, + rambling ;)

Hi! I know, it's been some time...but I do have some new art! Only one piece- I am slowing down a bit, will touch on that in my ramble at the end here. Though there is only one *new* piece of art, I have lots of other goodies to share!

I really need to introduce you all to "Bun Bun the Clown"- some of you may not find him quite so precious as I do...I do not have an irrational fear of clowns, or bunnies for that matter, but I can appreciate how some of you may feel otherwise. Heh heh. At an rate, "Bun Bun the Clown" is an ORIGINAL mixed media painting- 11" x 7" on masonite. Details about Bun Bun and how he was created, purchase information, and more photos can be found at the listing in my darklingemily etsy shop at the link below:

Now...For those of you who are familiar with my older mixed media fantasy art...I have a surprise for you! I am now offering special gift boxes featuring many of my mixed media images through my Zazzle shop! These are so adorable, and I find that even a printed version of my collage art brings a great deal of dimension to a flat tile surface! To check out all the gift boxes I currently have, please visit the link below the picture:

Of course, I am still running my usual parade of art prints and originals over on eBay HERE! There are ACEO open edition prints (I try to list a few new ones each day) starting at just 99 cents, and ORIGINAL paintings and illustrations starting at just $15! This is a fantabulous place to look is you are in search of gifts (wink wink), you can get some ridiculous deals this way! Again, please visit my eBay auctions running HERE for lots of deals!

Okay, on to rambling. I am sure some of you have noticed that I have been slowing WAY down in production over the last few months. I know I have mentioned it before. Being an artist is basically like going through one phase after another, and reveling in that phase as much as possible, gleaning every ounce of knowledge and life from it, every drop of color...once you get all that, the cycle clicks over and there is a new phase to explore. That's how it has always been for me, anyhow. Not to say that it is all grand and fabulous, but I try to experience "bad things" in stride with the "good things"- and quotations because nothing is as it seems, really. Well, I think I have just entered some new and bizarre phase in my art, and thus in my life. I am unfamiliar with the landscape and will need time to get my bearings. Knowing myself as well as I do, I have decided to finally slow down a bit. Well, kind of, in a way. I guess it's more like going rogue-hermit to work on some more involved projects. Of course there will still be art, though, no worries! I just can't promise any sort of consistency in creating new art for now. Also, commissions are officially CLOSED until next year sometime, I have not decided when exactly. I have to get my poor website in order- it is half remodeled and I've put it off for far too long now...But anyway, that's me thinking out loud. Or thinking via keyboard.

xo!

Live Gargoyle + Silver Dragon Paintings, Raven prints, ++!

Oh, man...Hey...Sorry it's been so long :\

Apparenty, it's been so long I don't even know where to begin, I've just been staring at this blank screen for awhile thinking about things. I have two new dragon paintings, a bunch of auctions running on eBay, some new raven prints up in my Zazzle shop...good times!

I will begin with the dragons- two brand new original paintings! The first is "Live Gargoyle"- a big eyed dragon perched on the rooftop ledge of some unknown building, peering into the night. He is an original 4" x 6" acrylic painting (on canvas) up for auction on eBay! Bidding starts at just $15- to see more pictures, read about the art, and perhaps even place a bid to own this lovely creature, please visit the link below the picture:

I do also have a bunch of eBay auctions running- ACEO prints starting at 99 cents, 4" x 6" print sets (three per set) of some of my dragons starting at $6, and some originals starting at just $15!! To see all the art currently up for auction, please click HERE!!

The other brand new dragon painting is titled "Silver"- a grey dragon half wrapped in his wings, against a yellow-gold background...an interesting color combo...This piece is an original acrylic painting, 4" x 6" on canvas, available in my etsy shop at the link below:

I've also relisted a few favorite original pieces in my darklingemily etsy shop, after much debate as to whether to keep them for myself. I suppose I can just live with them until it is time for them to find their new and appropriate homes. So, if you are in the market for a colorful and strange painting for your space, do consider visiting my shop

Now, for all you raven lovers- I have put up some new print sizes and options for a selection of my raven pieces, with more to come when I can find the time! Check out all the raven-y goodness at the link below the photo:

So, the burlesque show was phenomenal! I had a blast, met a ton of great people, saw some friends, drank some drinks, took in a glorious show, and Ii am still a little tired from it, even though it was last weekend. Well, okay, I am tired from working through all of it and then...oh, haha, wait, I forgot...I jsut work all the time! Still in commission land, and...I will warn you now, I will be reworking my commission set up and pricing very soon...I may very well close down commissions for awhile. So...If you want a custom piece from me, now would be the time to squeak in! I will say that once I close commissions, I will not be reopening them again until next year. I think you have about 2 weeks to decide ;)

I know my art output has been lackluster of late...and I have no justifiable reason to apologize. I keep starting projects and then returning to commissions, and then starting more pieces, etc. It has been like tis for...weeks? a month? longer? I am not sure anymore. But hoooooo-frickin-ray for the day where I have time to paint for myself again, because I am going to bust out a lot of work. Right now, though, I am going to relax and read a little bit.

The Other Emily- a peek into the life behind the artist.

I've been meaning to post this for awhile now- this is a general look into some of the other parts of my life that art not so much about making art. Just for fun, I guess. Also, because I have no new art to post this week :\
Anyhoo, I hope you find it mildly entertaining...or something!

I generally get up every morning between 5 and 5:30 am. EVERY MORNING. If I happen to sleep in, it's never really past 8. Sad, isn't it? Around 6am I have first breakfast, consisting of coffee, some sort of food item (often cereal, sometimes a bagel), and Vitamin B. Then I check my emails, feed the cat, get my shipments all sorted out, and sometimes I list a few things on eBay/Zazzle.

"First Breakfast"

Once I get to work, I have second breakfast, usually a piece of fruit or oatmeal or if everything works out well, someone is there to cook me something tasty, but usually I get hungry again before anyone shows up.

I am most productive if I maintain a consistent state of madness in my studio...During the work week, it can get really disheveled around the desk area- paperwork, pieces, and mail to sort through and deal with. And the lists. Don't even get me started on those!

"Abandoned Desk"

Other things also escape me at times, like DOING THE DISHES! I live alone, so there is no one but Emily to blame this mess on:

"Do the Dishes!"

I work outside the studio as a prep cook for Arizona Pizza Company- I am first in every morning, must be in early to make the pizza dough! This is my "office" where I chop, cut, slice, mix, and make all sorts of edible items for our customers! I also spend a good portion of the day here screaming at inanimate machines and muttering to myself under my breath.

"Em's Office"

This is a batch of medium sized pizza dough balls, ready to roll and then flatten in the dough-flattening-machine. (I don't know what it's called for real). Depending on the level of business and time of year, I can make anywhere from 1 to 6 batches of dough a shift. We have three different sizes. It is a PAIN IN THE ASS. But...I get paid for it, and I am apparently good at it. Also, it is a good opportunity to zen out and brainstorm new pictures!

"Dough!"

I have been working in kitchens off and on (mostly ON) for...*ahem*...over ten years now. I have held assorted positions, ranging from dish-dog to manager. At this point, I am content to be a prep cook. I do it very well. At least that is what they tell me, probably just to keep me happy. Don't want to upset a girl with a knife in her hand most of the day, you know? :) But, in all the years I have been "restauranting", I have found that only two things truly matter to make my work days tolerable, even fun...Music, and a great set of coworkers. The music in this particular restaurant is hit or miss, depending on the day and who is managing. Lucky for me, I work with some really wonderful people- hilarious, entertaining, inspiring, just freakin GOOD people. I am very thankful for this, especially because they also put up with ME! I can be a real...well, bitch.

"Coworkers!"

So, I work a regular eight hour day on my feet, running, sweating, swearing, quite often crying, covered in food and grease, and I am pretty beat by the end of the weekend. YEs. I forgot to mention. I WORK EVERY WEEKEND, ALL WEEKEND LONG.

When I get home from work, though, I have this gorgeous man waiting for me:

"Buddy"

If I do not have any friends over, then I quietly spend a little down time with the kitty, check all my mails, cook some dinner, and then I sit. Mostly when I sit, it's to relax and let my brain wander a little. Sometimes I watch a movie, though there is always the danger of falling asleep about ten minutes into it. I will work on paintings or illustrations, write up ideas I had during the day, sort through sketches in my journal, slowly work on secret, never-mentioned projects that I feel may never come to fruition, catch up on odds and ends, or read, and do some stretching before bed. I try to go to bed at a reasonable hour (like 11pm) but that usually does NOT happen! And then...it starts all over again the next day!

Basically, I work all the time. You cannot see the glamor in this daily life, because I save it all up and then put it on paper, in color, to share with you. I make art as a release, and as therapy. I make art to give myself something back at the end of the day. I make art because my hands are not happy if they are not speaking for my heart. I make art because it makes me. I make art because I am Emily, and I don't know what else I would do. And...that's all I have to say about that :)

xo!

Sexy Witch pin up auction, Burlesque + Art show info, Mermaid + Sea Monster art, + more!

Again! I am so sorry you guys. I am really bogged with work and stuff, just trying to make it through one minute at a time here! Crazyland! Amazingly, I seem to have endless energy and decently upbeat spirits lately, for the most part, so that is helpful! I also happen to have some new art and info on a one night show!

I will start with the brand new art! Since I've taken on a handful of commissions and one slightly involved project, I haven't had a lot of time to make art for art's sake. Though I did find some time recently, and painted up a pretty little Halloween witch! "Flight of the Jack-o-Lanterns" is an original 5" x 7" acrylic painting, featuring a sexy pin up style witch and two flying Jack-o-Lanterns! This particular painting is up for auction on my Facebook page- she is currently sitting at $12, and bidding ends Monday night, October 3rd, at 11pm EST. You can check out the auction (and bid if you like, and share if you like, too!) at the link below her picture:

NOW...(dun dun dun)...I will be MAKING A PUBLIC APPEARANCE!! OMG!! AHHH!! Yes, it is TRUE, I will be crawling out from my stacks of papers, piles of fabric, and leaving my kitteh home by himself for a night of art and debauchery, burlesque style! Being the featured (visual) artist for Bon Appétit Burlesque's Ghoulesque Halloween show is, like, THE COOLEST! I am psyched!!

The short of it: Friday, October 14th, at the Deuce (World War II Club) Northampton, Doors at 8pm, show starts at 9pm (come early and chat with me!)-- ALL the info can be found at the Facebook page for the event:

Bon Appétit Burlesque's Ghoulesque

I will be there, all dressed up like most of you have never seen, showing a selection of my art, enjoying the show, and hanging out! If you are in the area, have $10(ish), are over 21 (sorry kids!) and like awesomeness, please come out!!

Okay, now one more little bit of art before I get on to the next thing (which should really be bed, but...probably not). I have listed the original illustration of "Napping Sea Monster" for auction on eBay. This is a piece I did last year, and I just love her so much, she is so pretty! Ah, dork! Yes, she is a beautiful purple haired mermaid, cradling a tiny sea dragon monster in her arms- he is napping! So sweet! This original illustration is 10" x 8" in mixed media- all the info is at the link below the picture, bidding starts at $30!

Also, a whole bunch of other art auctions on eBay, ACEO prints, some relisted originals (Frankenstein dragon!)...Please click HERE to see them all!

Alrighty then....Have the best weekend you've ever had! I mean it!!

Halloween Dragons- Frankenstein, Witch, and Zombie! Plus new $5 prints on etsy!

OKay...

I know, I know...I suck. I totally skipped last week's post, but I swear to you I was working! I was also sick and exhausted, so...I had to take it easy for once. I don't slow down unless my body forces me to, and it was saying "STOP!". I feel much better now, and I have some new art to share! (Finally!)

First up is a painting that just came to me in an instant and I could not ignore him- "Franken Dragon"! He is an original 4" x 6" acrylic painting on canvas, up for auction on eBay with a starting bid of just $15! I am in love with this piece, so if you love him too, better consider snapping him up now, I may just have to add him to my personal collection...;) The link to the auction listing (with more info and pictures, plus bidding!) can be found below the picture:

"Franken Dragon" original Halloween fantasy art

Another brand new original- "Witch Dragon"- it's all Halloween up in this biatch hah! So, "Witch Dragon" is an original ACEO painting (2.5" x 3.5" acrylics on canvas)...This little dragon is up for auction on eBay as well, and for a low starting bid of $5! To see the listing, and perhaps adopt this silly little thing into your home, please visit the link below the picture:

"Witch Dragon" original Halloween ACEO art

Now, this third dragon was a commission piece, and as of right now I am not offering any sort of reproductions of this image. This may change at some point, however, I did want to show it off, as technically it is my first official zombie dragon! This piece is titled "Let Freedom Roar". I will post more information on the project this image is a part of once there is something to be told...

But...if you want to peak your curiosity, check out this website: http://www.thesestrangeworlds.com

Also, I have been listing more $5 prints in my etsy shops- this round I am working on my zombietoes etsy shop! All 4" x 6" prints are just $5! To see all my available prints, just click HERE! More to come in the next few days, too ;)

Okay, I gotta drag my butt off to bed...Otherwise, I am afraid I will just keep working!

"Dead Monster Bouquet" finished! Plus, Zombie original art auction, Jester Pin Up illustration, and $5 prints!

Hi hi!

Whew! While I am typing this, it is currently 8:15 am and I am trying to *not fall behind* on my work...phhsssh, that is futile, I should know by now. I did get part of a commission piece finished up last night (barring approval) and have a bunch more from that project to work on, as well as another separate piece...and lots of other stuff! But enough of that for now. I have NEW ART to share! well, one new piece. :\ Better than nothing! Also- 4" x 6" open edition art prints for $5 each, some older original pieces up for auction on eBay, and perhaps some rambling...

Allow me to introduce the completed "Dead Monster Bouquet"- she is an original 8.5" x 11" illustration (inks, acrylics, and pencil on bristol). I started this piece in a really bad mood, and in my head she was much darker...at least at first. But because I do not have the luxury of working on one piece all the way through at the moment, I had to keep putting her aside. Days passed, and I wasn't in a terrible mood anymore. Some colors peeked through. Bouquets should be colorful, even if they are made of dead scary things with sharp claws and angry mouths. Also, I should note two things about this piece- first being that I had intended for the ink on the background monsters to run and bleed, so...I am aware of that. I had hoped for a little more bleed, but what can you do. Also, no monsters were harmed in the creation of this piece- the dead ones were "ethically collected after death" and "preserved in an ecologically friendly" fashion. The original "Dead Monster Bouquet" illustration is currently up for auction on eBay, with a low starting bid of $50 (and a Buy It Now price of $75)...To see more pictures, read about her a bit, and perhaps even add her to your collection, please visit the link below the picture:

"Dead Monster Bouquet" original dark fantasy illustration

Okay. That's all for brand new art. BUT! I have some other, older (and still viable!) originals up for auction on eBay- ONE OF THEM IS A ZOMBIE PAINTING! You must know that it is not often that I offer my *original* zombie pieces up for sale, so...take advantage! This particular round it is my great big (16" x 20") "Green Means GO!" acrylic painting on gallery wrapped canvas. You can see all the auction details and such at the link below the picture:

"Green Means GO!" Original Zombie Silhouette dark art painting

I've also got an original jester pin up illustration up for auction- "Caramelized" is a sweet and delicious temptress, outfitted in a suit made of caramel! MMM freakin' delicious! Ha! She is an original 8" x 10" artwork (acrylic paints, pencils, and inks on bristol)...Check out the link for all her auction info- $30. starting bid!

"Caramelized" sexy jester pin up illustration

Also, a bunch of other wonderful pieces- both originals and prints- are up for auction as well! To see them all, just click HERE!

Uh! I told you there was a lot today :) I still have to fill you in on my 4" x 6" prints! I am now offering open edition art prints of some of my favorite pieces for just $5 each! I will have more available in the next few weeks, too- but for now, if you buy any two 4" x 6" prints, you get one 4" x 6" print free! Just put three in your cart, and DO NOT PAY ME until I adjust your invoice! SO, your $15 purchase will turn into $10, and you still get everything you wanted! Woo! (that does not include shipping, which is as low as I can make it) Additionally, if you happen to purchase a 5/$10 art print set, I will also send you a free 4" x 6" print of your choice! Just add your free 4" x 6" print to your cart, and again- DO NOT PAY ME UNTIL I CHANGE YOUR INVOICE! LOL!! I think I will just run this sale until Next Wednesday. Or until I run out of prints, whichever happens first. Probably Wednesday, then. So...Check out the link below the picture for all my 4" x 6" art prints!

Well, this is getting rather long, and I have a crapton of work to get to, so I don't know that I will ramble. I will say this, though- earlier this week, I was sure I would not have time to get a piece finished to post, so I took my camera around with me and sort of documented a usual week in my life. I am wanting to put together a post about my daily life, because...most of you do not know that side, and I think you might find it interesting? More interesting than I do, most likely. So...I will try to get that together at some point very soon.

"Dead Monster Bouquet" Work in Progress pictures, FB Fan Giveaway (aka FREE ART!) + rambling.

Gah! No time to sleep! Ahhhh!!

The sad thing is, I don't even have any new art to share. Well, I have some work in progress photos. I thought I had better post something anyway...Oh, yes, I also have a Facebook Fanpage Giveaway going on this weekend! And some rambling, of course, because what else would I post, having no art? Haha..ha..ha.

First of all... I am working on a few new ladies...I had to take a break from the dragons, I needed a little sexy in my life. So, there are some work in progress photos of my latest pin up illustration "Dead Monster Bouquet" up in my FB Work in Progress album HERE along with a line sketch of another piece I am slowly filling in. I am hoping to have these two strange and beautiful women completed next week...We will see what happens between my commission work, my day job, and my lack of sleep. ;)

Now, I am also holding a giveaway on my Facebook Art Page, as I have reached 400 "likes" and it is high time to celebrate SOMETHING LOL! So, I am giving away a handful of free art- all the info on how to enter and what you could win are at the link below the picture:

Darkling Treasures Facebook Giveaway \

Before I start my ramble, allow me to mention the ongoing parade of art for auction on eBay HERE- ACEO Prints from 99 cents, ACEO Originals from $5, and assorted original paintings and illustrations from $15!

Ramble ramble...I am working on a lot of commission stuff lately, and with the day job getting busier (I live in a college town, and all the students are flooding back in, making work BUSY!), I have not had all that much time to mess around in the studio or even in any sort of social aspect. I seem to be fighting with myself a lot lately, mostly over the overview of my art business and it needing a great big overhaul. I am trying to find time to get my website under control. I am trying even harder to find time to sleep! On the upside, I am getting my Mondays back in the studio, and...I am about 2/3 of the way prepared for Halloween- at least art wise. I don't know about a costume. PSssh, who am I kidding? I will probably just sit at home and paint. (What a derk.)
