"Ms. White" snow white painting + a song, Blue Dutchess mermaid ACEOs, and Commissions OPEN!

It's princess time, y'all...

I've finished up my Snow White painting. She's very moody, I must say! I don't believe that being a princess of any kind is all that it's cracked up to be, and I think this lady would share my sentiments, judging by her pose and the look on her face.

A little background on this piece: I started her on a whim; my homage to the beginning of autumn, raven-haired beauties all over the globe, to the random piles of apples I have been coming across in my daily life. No, really, there are at least three giant piles of apples in my back yard (and there is no apple tree there) and one up the street, ON the street, in fact...not to mention the tiny crab apples that rain down along the sidewalks and get squished into the soles of my sneakers every time I go for a walk. APPLES everywhere. Probably a lot of drunken squirrels, too!

The aspects of Snow White that I can appreciate the most are her work ethic and motivation to stay alive. She was banished for her beauty- something she cannot help, nor uses to her advantage. Her kind heart (though naive) and her fearlessness in asking for help are what get her through. She never expects anything from anyone. She works hard. She takes what is offered to her graciously. Even a poison apple. Even a whole bushel of them. She is a good girl, through and through.

However, even good girls get a little pissy sometimes. Here is "Ms. White" in one of those introspective moments, surrounded by the fruit that put her in a glass coffin. Perhaps she is coming to the realization that no matter which apple she chooses, it will have some sort of delicious poison inside...after all, the apple seed itself does contain trace amounts of cyanide ;)

"Ms. White" original Snow White painting

She is a 10" x 8" acrylic painting, currently up for auction on eBay- click the picture above to see the listing, and perhaps even place a bid! Of course, I do have a song to go with this painting:

Yay! So, another new thing this week is the double sided ACEO prints of "Blue Dutchess"! These are printed in archival inks on glossy cardstock, initialed on the back. On the front is the image of the finished painting, and on the back is the original sketch art, along with the story blurb about this piece. They are very pretty!

You can get one on eBay right now (starting bid $3)-> "Blue Dutchess" ACEO on eBay
I will have them available through my website very soon...In the meantime, if you'd like one but don't want to deal with eBay, you can always send me an email with "Blue Dutchess ACEO request" in the subject line, or something to that effect. Affect? Gah! I never know. A small salute to my grammatical ignorance. Anyhoo, $4 for a Blue Dutchess ACEO, free shipping...that was my point :)

Perhaps some of you will be excited about this next tidbit of news- commissions are now officially open again! Yayayayayayay! It's a little bit different this time around...I've set things up as a menu, so you can pick and choose artistic options depending on your needs and price range! I'm hoping that this set up makes as much sense to you as it does to me...But you can always ask me a million questions about it, I'd be happy to answer them. That being said, why don't you take a peek at my updated and open for business Custom Art page: Have Em make you something special!

Mmmm, that's about everything for now. I will have "Ms. White" up on my website and available as prints and posters, etc, in a week or so. I hope. Decisions on the next painting will be made soon. I hope. I will get some comics drawn and inked for my Dorkling comic strip. I gosh-dern hope. Yes, so that's all. Talk soon!

Snow White #2 WIPs, Raven 24, + The Last Straw scarecrow pin up

Ahh, well...it's autumn!

I've been bouncing around a bit lately, not really having much ability to sit still and work these days. Perhaps I am just enjoying the last of the beautiful weather...I cannot STAND winter, and am trying to soak up all the sun I possibly can before it is dark all the time...:\ As "darkling" you would think I would like the winter. But...f@ck that sh!t, it is too cold, and too depressing, and I am getting myself another sun bulb because I can't afford to move somewhere closer to the Equator. Meh. MEH! LOL.

Yes...anyway...I have been working a little bit on my Snow White painting- this is the second Snow White piece I have created recently. She is a 10" x 8" acrylic painting on a canvas panel; here are some work in progress pictures:

She should be finished up soon, and I have plans to list her on eBay- if you are interested in scooping her up before I do list her, feel free to email me for details and such. Also remember that I can offer payment plans for any piece- there is no need to pay all at once :)

I've gotten back into the raven thing over the past few weeks, and have one completed and listed for sale on eBay! This is "Raven 24"- an original mixed media piece (acrylics, inks, vintage sheet music on masonite)... Bidding starts at $45, just click on the picture and it should take you to the auction.

"Raven 24" original bird art

One more new original, "The Last Straw", has been relisted on eBay this week (she did not find a home last time around). An original pin up scarecrow lady, with...a crow! I am terrified of scarecrows, they creep me out in a very visceral way. This time of year they are everywhere I look, it seems. Most of them are friendly Halloween kitschy versions. Some of them are real, rotting, blowing in the wind, stained, and make me want to pull out my hair. For unfounded and completely ridiculous fears such as these, I like to "face them" by drawing my own versions. The original "The Last Straw" is a pen and colored pencil illustration, and she's up for bids (starting at $25) on eBay! Click the picture or the link below it to check out the auction :)

That is about it for now. I am awaiting the arrival of double-sided ACEO prints of "Blue Dutchess"- the mermaid remake I did earlier this year. I am also working on the commission page of my website, because I have finally decided to re-open them to the public once again :) Updates on all that stuff, plus the completed Snow White painting, will be up in about a week!!

Warmth, Snow White, and some other random updates

Hi hi!
There are a few new pieces for me to share- just a few small ones this round. I have been slowly working on the next big painting, though she is not a rework of an earlier illustration, so she is taking a bit longer to sketch out than I'd like, but that's life. Perhaps if I weren't being so particular about the details, she's be onto the next stage by now...but I'm getting fussy in my old age. ;)

Blah blah...

I've been staring at my "Brown" ACEO pin up illustration often lately:

"Brown"

I just love her so much I had to do a small rework! Here is "Warmth":

"Warmth" original painting

She is an original 5" x 7" acrylic painting on a canvas panel- being auctioned off on eBay HERE with a starting bid of $25. She's sexy, she has class. Only the peek of one nipple, haha! Very simple and art nouveau inspired. I wish I could afford to keep her around, but her style demands a more refined home than I can really provide at this time. (That's a really fancy way of saying "I haz the poor").

Now...Snow White! This is a small intro piece to my next painting with the same theme! I had two sketches of her, and this one has been transformed into a full color illustration. She is not the prim and proper Disney princess version- I should note here that I am not a fan of the Disney corporation. Of all the fairytale ladies, I can relate to Snow White the most. I'd apologize for the swear word in this piece, but I'd be lying if I said I was sorry.

"How You Like Dem Apples?" original illustration

She is an original mixed media illustration, on some kind of fancy art paper that my step-mother gave me. Should you have an interest in owning her, do head over to the eBay listing- bidding starts at $25: "How You Like Dem Apples?" Snow White original illustration

One more eBay mention- I have some double-sided ACEO prints of "Outersea" in stock, complete with a stupid typo on the back! Woo hoo, silly!

There is one for auction HERE on eBay, or you can order them through my website HERE!

Speaking of website, I have finally updated her (yes, my website is a girl) With poster and print options for "Pris-tend" as well as "Outersea"- Check out the newness: darklingtreasures.com

Yeah. So, all that stuff. I'm back tot he drawing board to work on the background for the new Snow White painting. Side note- if you've noticed that many of my recent artworks feature ladies with their eyes closed, cool. So have I, and I think that it's a sure sign that I could use more sleep in my life.

NEW Repaint- "Outersea" octopus mermaid, plus NEW double sided ACEO prints and Dragon Doodle!

Well, hello there!

So...A new painting!! Hooray!! I have been quite slackerly with the blog, and for that I am truly sorry. The more I joke about feeling sympathy for the White Rabbit, the more like him I become. Forgive the lack of work in progress shots, too. I've been posting them to my personal Facebook profile, and not my Darkling Treasures Facebook page, mainly because I feel like it's a waste of time. I've had to go back to basics, for sanity's sake (hahahaha, like I even know what that IS)...Back to basics is: WEBSITE, this BLOG, and my personal Facebook profile. Feel free to add me HERE as a friend, though I MUST reiterate: This is my personal profile. I may not actually be as whimsical, innocent, or even as nice and sweet as I perhaps (and quite accidentally) have led you to believe.

*ahem* aaanyhow, onto the new art!! Weee! "Outersea" is by far one of the most detailed, tedious, and irritating piece I have worked on to date. Strangely, she is also pretty impressive. At least I think so. After the initial concept re-sketch in pencil, I had no plans for her. No color scheme, no background ideas, no real purpose behind her...just flying by the seat of my pants. So, I spent a lot of time just staring at her, a bunch of grey lines on an otherwise white canvas. At a certain point, I just started adding color, because sometimes you have to work without inspiration...that's when it will sneak over to you and attack your toes under the desk. Perhaps that was my cat. It doesn't matter now. This mermaid lady and I went with the flow until we decided she was complete. Here is the finished painting:

"Outersea" original mermaid octopus painting- for auction on eBay

She's currently up for auction on eBay HERE for ONE MORE DAY, and if she ends with no bids, she does have a destination. What I am trying to tell you is that this is your only chance to get the original!! And at half price, too! That's a wicked good deal. Just sayin.

Of course, I do have a SONG to go with this piece :) "Splish Splash" by Bobby Darin:

Also noteworthy- I've got some special NEW ACEO art prints of "Pris-tend" and "Button Pusher" listed for auction on eBay. I call these 'special' because they are DOUBLE SIDED!! This is something I've been wanting to do for awhile now. The ACEOs are professionally printed in archival inks on cardstock- the front features the full color painting, and the back displays the original concept illustration and the story blurb to go along with the piece. Because these prints have art on BOTH sides, I *have* raised the starting bid from my usual $2 for an ACEO to $3, but that is still a fair price. Check them out:

"Pris-tend" double sided ACEO print

Ooh, and a new original Dragon Doodle! This is "Cold Shoulder":

Now...back to the desk!!

"Pris-tend" Original rework FINISHED! Plus a great song and a ramble about the painting process...

Ah, hello!

So...another whole month has passed, with nary an update from me. Man, I used to be so on top of this blog. I used to be so on top of my art. I was just sitting here, pondering on the quality of my art versus the economy...basically, I have frustrations regarding my improved work and how much I used to make off my art 'back in the day'. It's aggravating, because I feel I've grown so much as an artist, though if you looked at it from a financial perspective, it would appear that I am in fact SUCKING MORE than I ever have. Thankfully, that is not the case...and while I may currently be disturbingly broke, I KNOW that my art is better than it ever was. I am sure there are many of us that feel similar.

Blahblahblah, sorry for that ramble. I have taken to typing up whatever is in my head these days, regardless if it is on point with my main goal. I have taken to doing a lot of things differently these days...

SO...anyhoooo...Basically I have been working on lots of goodness and hilarity over at Dorkling (a comic) and have not really felt like being online much. Or inside. But I did manage to finish up my latest painting- the rework of "Pris"- a fantasy portrait of my very magical friend! I have titled the new version "Pris-tend"- a name/word meaning to pretend (or dream, play, make believe) in such a manner as to manifest magic in the souls of other creatures. Awe, Pris, I love you so much I made up a new word! Hahaha! Now, here is the song to go along with the painting, one of my very VERY favorite songs, for one of the most beautiful people in the whole wide world:

My thoughts were with all my friends while I worked on this piece, specifically all those people who I have met online, and never once in person. There are...a number of special people that I would have never known existed if it weren't for the interwebz. For me, friendship is not, and never was, about how pretty someone is, how much they can help me, how cool they are, or how much time I spend with them. Friendship is about feeling another person's heart, and accepting it for what it is. Sometimes I lose friends. Sometimes I gain friends. But whether here or there, near or far, plain or covered in condiments, I love all my friends. I do find that sometimes...it is easier to reach out to someone far away from my life, people unbiased to my daily routines, moods, and work schedule. I often feel more at ease with these folks because I...am a writer at heart, and that's pretty much how it works here in digital land. Hah. And another thing...if I DO know you in real life, and you happen to get a note or written correspondence from me...well...then I must have some deep stuff to say to you. Hahah. That, or I am just trying to avoid talking on the phone!! :)

So, without further adieu, the finished painting of "Pris-tend":

"Pris-tend" original fantasy portrait art

This piece is an original 8" x 10" acrylic painting on a canvas panel- she is up for auction on eBay at this link:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=321151895698
for seven days, with an ACEO print of the original illustration included in the auction:

(the original illustration)

If she does not find a new home this round, I will most likely relist her once on eBay, and then after that dhe will be FULL PRICE in my darklingemily etsy shop...so if you want to own her, now would be a less expensive time to get her!

In addition, she is available for an ACEO sponsorship- a new option I am offering through my website! You can read all about it here: Sponsor "Pris-tend" as an ACEO print (or another piece of Emily's art!)

So...that is about it for over here...if you need more Emily in your life than I am offering on this blog, you are MORE THAN WELCOME to check out my weekly comic strip over at dorklingcomic.blogspot.com for more ;) But...it's not this. Not by a long shot. And now you've been warned! I think I may rework "Bath Time" for next month...

"Pris" painting rework progress shots, a NEW nude illustration, website news, and Sponsor an ACEO opportunity!

Hi Hi!
Well, I feel like it's been a long time since I've updated- May got away from me with other projects! However, there is NEW art in this post, and I have been diligently working on my latest painting- a rework of "Pris"- and I do have a few work in progress photos for you to check out!

This post is mainly about some new happenings on the Darkling Treasures Website!

First of all, I have created a new gallery for all my 2013 works- It's so much easier for me to keep everything straight this way! There is a tab for it on the website main menu, but if you want to hop over there now and take a peek, here is the link: New Gallery for 2013 artworks

Prints and posters of all the new pieces are available through this gallery, along with the links to the original paintings, and...something BRAND NEW I am offering...ACEO Sponsorships!

Basically, I would like to change over my ACEO prints to two-sided, professionally printed cards, because they are GORGEOUS and I am quite tired of severely overworking my poor printer. So, I thought...maybe I could offer a little something extra for those of you who would have it... ;) Please read all about the ACEO sponsorship opportunity at this link: Sponsor a Darkling Treasures ACEO!

Sponsoring an ACEO print means you can have your business/website/a friend or family member's name/dedication/quotation/etc on the back side of an image of your choosing, for the full print run of 100 cards...Again, far more information about this crazy offering can be found on my website HERE!

Okay, ART TIME!! I've been doodling in between projects, as my hands tend to find trouble if they are not busy! This is a brand new nude illustration, in inks on bristol...and she's a gorgeous girl! I have titled her "The Wait"- she's even got a little Ralphie tattoo! "The Wait" is an 8.5" x 11" piece, and she is currently up for auction on eBay at the link below her picture:

"The Wait" original ink illustration

Now, how about some work in progress pictures of my latest? This is a reworking of my original portrait illustration of my friend Pris! Lovely, beautiful, magical creature that she is, an inspiration and a light...Here's what I've got done so far:

She's slowly nearing completion, in between a few other pieces, and lots and lots more website work...which I just *love* soooo much (sarcasm). Of course, it will be easier to keep it more current now that I have forced myself to slow down with making tons of art!

Remember- more frequent updates, work in progress pictures, news, and such can be had here on my Facebook Page: Darkling Treasures on Facebook

Button Pusher re-work nude pin up Illustration to Painting + Music + RAMBLE!

New Painting Time!! Weee!

This is my rework of "Buttons"...She was originally illustrated as a 7" x 5" colored sketch- see the picture:

I do have an ACEO or two of her left, if you'd like one, just shoot me an email: I want an ACEO print of Buttons! and let me know! They are $3 each, I only have 1 or 2 left. I am also adding one in with the original painting if/when she sells :) Then that version of "Buttons" will be retired forever! :0

So, a bit about the process, and the life I led in the shortish time it took to recreate this piece: First, I would like to just mention two words (and please forgive me, I am about to "hippie out" on y'all a little)- Manifestation, and Serendipity. I am ONLY going to mention them, however, and say this one little thing- it is my firm and substantiated belief that WHAT YOU PUT INTO THE UNIVERSE IS WHAT YOU WILL GET OUT OF THE UNIVERSE. I am sure many of you have seen the Snapple commercial "put good in, get good out" or whatever...well...it's true. Or...perhaps it is just that whatever you believe so firmly is what will happen. Crap. That thought had more to do with my painting in my head than it does typed up. I suppose what I am trying to say is that I have come to experience serendipity as a product, as proof, that manifestation is a real, working magic. Lately there has been a fair amount of serendipity around, enough that I would notice (because we all know I live in a low-pressure, but pretty dense cloud hovering just above the ground). Now...I'm pretty sure the events that follow will give you a little glimpse into why I say these things.

To get into the mood to paint this particular piece, I actually did a sewing project first (results are HERE!). I love my sewing machine. I will never not have a sewing machine in my life. It was upon completing this project that I finally sketched out the new "Button Pusher" piece, complete with an old-timey sewing machine/audio-listening contraption fusion thingy. It would be cool to have a machine like this...but I'm not sure how safe it would be. Really. I have suffered some pretty nasty injuries from my beloved sewing machine. One time, a needle broke, flew up, and hit me RIGHT IN THE EYEBALL. Everything worked out for the best, as I still have both my eyes in (mostly) working condition.
Once I got her onto canvas and started shading her, filling in skin, adding a little life...things in MY life got all weird. I mean, more condensed weirdness than usual. I noticed that while I was bringing this lady to life, a lot of the personal buttons in MY life were being pressed...good, bad, a variety of in-betweens. That is why I mentioned the manifestation. It was starting to creep me out, even, so...I did break away to work on some cartoon art. But enough rambling. Basically, this piece has a statement, I suppose, and it would be something like this-

Pushing Buttons can get things done. Everything is connected, though, so be freakin careful about the buttons you do push. Also, nekkid tattooed ladies are hot. She is currently up for auction on eBay- click her picture or the link below it for all the info ;)

"Button Pusher" original reworked painting (on eBay)

It's funny to me what I ramble on about, and what I do not ramble on about. Sheesh. So...continuing the theme of serendipity and manifestation...I had originally had another song picked out for this post...Dare I tell you...Yeah, it was "Pink" by Aerosmith. I'll wait until you are done laughing. It's okay. I love that song. What. But then, the other morning, I remembered the band Tweaker (a side project of Chris Vrenna-NIN drummer) and this song...which I just adore and feel it was probably written for me (not at all the truth, but I live in fantasyland after all):

Tweaker-"It's Still Happening"
I'm sorry, they've disabled the embed function for this video, and I don't want to post another version of it because THIS VIDEO is AWESOME. AS is the song. ;)

Good grief, that is quiet enough rambling. I am so sorry. I often read other artists' blogs, and they are so helpful and informative (see http://tiffanysrealm.blogspot.com/) or inspiring and exciting (see http://magisterian.blogspot.com/)...And mine is just full of crazy. Perhaps that is my charm. Perhaps it is best not to question such things. ;)

April Re-cap- H.F.S.- Original Paintings, New Homes, + RAMBLE

Hello hello!

Ahh...April was kind of a whirlwind month for me, so...I got quiet again :\ Not to say I was not working, I just was not posting much. I go through these "bratty" phases where I just DO NOT want to market and be all social about my art, even listing can be a huge chore for me. I'd rather just be creating. I don't consider it a good thing when I get this way, and I am currently trying to figure a way to trick myself into being consistent in my 'business presence' while still feeling free to be myself- a sometimes cranky girl. *sigh* If I KNEW being an artist was this hard, I may have chosen the Peace Corps instead. (That was a joke! I know I am doing what it is I am supposed to!!)

Okay, so that ramble just got out of hand. Meant for that to go AFTER the art updates!! This is basically a post for rambling, thinking out loud, and updating you all on where the original paintings "Fool's Blood" and "Blue Dutchess" ended up, and what is coming up next!

I know you can't see me, but I just put my business pants on...Now let's get to it! Remember "Fool's Blood"? Well, she did not sell at auction (this happens ALL THE TIME with larger originals) so I have put her up at her full price in my darklingemily etsy shop!! The original is 11" x 14", acrylics on canvas panel, signed, sealed, wired- ready to hang as is or frame- and you can see all the other details and more photos here at the link below her picture:

"Fool's Blood" original pin up painting on etsy

The same thing happened with the mermaid "Blue Dutchess"- she is ALSO available for constant viewing and possible purchasing at her new home in my etsy shop- see the link below her beautiful face!

"Blue Dutchess" original mermaid painting on etsy

In other art news, I have finished up the "Button Pusher" piece, except that...it needs a bit of adjusting on one section. I have been staring at it for a few days now, and you know...It just doesn't look quite right. So, once I fix her and scan her in, etc, I will have that post (with music, yay!). And I am still pondering on which rework to choose next. I keep leaning towards my gorgeous friend's portrait "Pris"- See her HERE- or maybe "Russette"- see her HERE- but I'm a bit afraid I might be overloading on mermaids. This leads me right into a ramble about how I don't really care to paint legs or feet, really, and my recent admission and struggles with this. That's part of the reason I chose to rework "Button Pusher" this past round. I have nothing against feet and legs, and I use mine all the time and am thankful they work and look okay...but as far as art goes...not my strong suit. So, what do I do? Avoid it like the plague. This has been a downfall of mine since the beginning of Emily. Trying to rectify that, starting with my artwork. Of course, both of those reworks I just mentioned above have no legs or feet. Gah!

This also brings up my other recent issue with my creative self...fantasy vs comic. I had set up this rework painting schedule at the beginning of 2013, knowing in my heart that where I really want to head is...into comic land. Cartoons make me happy, and they seem to spring from my hands without effort or too much thought most of the time. I find them to be a purer sort of expression, with a wider reach, a simpler footing in society, and...they look like candy but they aren't candy. You know I love things that look like candy but aren't actually candy. (I also love candy). I'm not saying I am leaving behind my mermaids, dragons, and sexy sexy ladies. But I just can't seem to market everything appropriately anymore. I may be a fool, but I never learned to juggle this much stuff. ;)I'm basically overwhelmed with art, and just getting more and more ideas every day. GAH!!! Perhaps I will give up and just be one of those really spacey, unorganized artist types. Whoa. Wait, that's an option! I hadn't even considered it until just this moment! :P

Buttons nude illustration re work into Painting- work in progress pics!

Hi guys!
So, this month's re-work piece is "Buttons"- she was originally a 7" x 5" pen and ink sketch/illustration...and I am turning her into a 10" x 8" painting! Here is the ink version of "Buttons":

I do have an ACEO print of her up for auction on eBay HERE- probably one of the very last ones of this version EVER to be made! I will include one with the new painting as well, but you may want to grab one up before they are all gone :) Additionally, you can order other print/poster sizes through this page on my website- "Buttons" illustration artwork + print order info

So...here are some work in progress shots (crappy ones, and for that I apologize, and will blame my iPod camera):

As you can see, I have added a bit of a 'story' to her, with some slightly wonky props and furniture. I told myself I would NOT use every color in the rainbow on this piece, but I think that might have been wishful thinking...

I am mostly working on cartoon/comic art at the moment, so I hope you can forgive my lack of updates and such. Running two completely different operations gets a little...well, fucking batshit crazy. I can't lie, and I can't not swear, because I want the emphasis. Also, because once in awhile I feel the need to remind everyone that while I may paint pretty things, I have a pretty...gritty personality. That is not to say I cannot be sweet, but...Uhh...something something...cavities? Yeah :P

Before I 'sign off', though, I would like to remind you all of all my OTHER auctions happening on eBay- you can see them all HERE! I've been listing some of the Mermaid March Madness originals (you can see which ones are available on my website HERE- if you don't want to wait for the one you want to go up for auction, just send me an email!) I've also been rotating in some older original paintings and illustrations, as I need to do a bit of spring cleaning! :) I will have another post in the very near future about other art stuff, so...be on the look out for that! :)

Blue Dutchess Mermaid painting- reworked from ACEO- Plus Music!

Ladies and Gentlemen, may I introduce to you "Blue Dutchess":

"Blue Dutchess" original mermaid reworked art- small illustration to big painting!

I had a lot of fun painting her, and even have a song for this painting!! I thought "why not post a song with every finished painting, Em?" Sooo, here is Magnetic Fields- "Deep Sea Diving":

Now, about this pretty mermaid girl- "Blue Dutchess" is an ORIGINAL 11" x 14" acrylic painting on canvas board. She is a multi-layered creation, swimming through some very strange water...Somewhere along the line, I decided that my work should be reflecting the messes that it often takes to get them made. I know, I know, it's just a freakin' mermaid, sheesh, why get all deep and philosophical about her? But there's always more under the surface. Ramble ramble ramble ;)

Sooo, anyhoo, she is currently up for auction on eBay, you can see her/bid/share on FB/twitter/wherevererrererer at this link: "Blue Dutchess" mermaid reworked original fantasy art on eBay
I should also note that the auction for the original painting includes the last ACEO print of the illustrated version of this beauty!

I think that is all for this post. I have a million other things I want to post about, but the paintings get their own special minute ;)

Dutchess Mermaid work in progress painting + updates!!

Hello!!
Didn't mean to drop off the face of the blogosphere, but...life happened. I do have some work in progress pictures of the "Dutchess" re-paint for you! Also, some MORE updates, yeesh...

So, this is the original illustration of "Dutchess":

There is ONE ACEO print of this version of "Dutchess" left, up for auction HERE on eBay! I will also be including an ACEO print of this version with the NEW PAINTING ;)
She was originally a little ACEO piece, but NOW she is becoming a large 11" x 14" painting!! Complete with my messy ink look!! A few progress shots for you:

As of this blog post, she is complete, and I should be listing her on eBay sometime in the next few days (I will have a seperate post for that!), barring any severe craziness (I may have just cursed myself there...)

Also- Mermaid March Madness is over, but go ahead and visit my website HERE to see ALL 31 of them!! There are still many available for purchase- each one is $15...I am slowly listing those that are available on eBay, too....Mermaids and More on eBay!

Now, quick updates:

First, I have gone ahead and revamped my eBay listing template- Nothing intense, I just wanted it to look more like my website :) So, for those of you who have noticed the change, and were possibly wondering what was going on with that- yes, it is still lil ol me! We are not attaching ourselves to EBSQ anymore, which leads me into update #2:

I will be removing my art from EBSQ- it's a long and slightly poopy story, but let's just say I don't like to pay for services that are not provided, and we'll leave it at that. I will be moving over to deviantart.com- slowly...very slowly. I have decided, for reasons related to sanity, to retire MOST OF MY ART. I know, that's a LOT of art to retire. What I mean when I say "retire"- I mean, no more prints. I DO NOT MEAN relinquishing my copyrights. I do not mean throwing my art in the garbage (maybe a few pieces). I will be 'curating' the works of mine that I have chosen to NOT retire...things will be set up a bit differently. I want to organize them into "stories" or "similar voices" or...eh, it's hard to explain. So that will take a bit of thinking on my part (dang, I can't ever escape the thinking!!!) I will certainly keep you posted!!

The print set up for all my new pieces (beginning with "Fool's Blood") will also be a bit different...I've been pondering the limited edition vs open edition point. I just realized, I have probably bored you to tears with this. This is probably what I am thinking about when you are talking to me in person and I have a glazed look on my face...Or maybe I actually look like I am listening to you? I have very little idea what is going on outside my inner world, and my studio, lately. I hope that I have been decent enough to you that you would naturally have a touch of patience for me at this time :)

You know what? More frequent updates can be found on my Facebook Page: Darkling Treasures on FB

Fool's Blood- NEW PAINTING- complete with ramble! Plus, a TON of mermaids!

Oh, good, I have finally found some time to post my new painting!!! Yay!! I also have a few other random things to share...actually, just mermaids. Lots of mermaids. And the new painting!!

Okay, first the new painting...I have decided to keep the working title "Fool's Blood", because that's what it is, that's what SHE is...*ahem* Anyhoo..."Fool's Blood" is an original 11" x 14" acrylic painting on a canvas panel. She is signed, sealed, wired, ready to hang as is or frame...all that good stuff!! I have put her up for auction on eBay- the link below the picture will take you to the auction, where you are invited to come check out the detail pictures, share via your preferred social media outlet, place a bid, etc, etc (hint hint):

I don't really want to get into the specifics of how she came to be (pain, obviously) but I will tell you some things about the process of this particular painting...For one thing, it is REALLY DIFFICULT to paint while you are crying. It just does not work. It's hard to see, plus I am not too sure how archival teardrops are...I'd think not so much. Secondly, this version of this song:

Now, I don't normally go for dubstep, but the elements of 'robot noise' really brought it home. Go ahead and judge me if you must, I will understand.
After finding this song, I went out and rented Requiem for a Dream (which I have seen before, and certainly recommend to anyone with a strong psyche)...which led me to develop a strange and totally random celebrity crush on Marlon Wayans. So. That was my February, or at least the creative part of it. Of course I did lots of other stuff, too. But this blog is not about those things.

Hmmm, I hope you know I did not mean to make anyone feel sad, I just wanted to share my process. It is not all sunshine and rainbows, you know, being an artist...being an Emily. ;P Now, how about some pretty pretty mermaids? Hahaha :) Let me explain: March Madness!! My version, of course! It is consisting of one brand new mermaid illustration every single day for the month of March! All of them are available for purchase (save the ones that have already sold). Everything is right here on this special page on my website:
A Mermaid A Day for March
Here's a picture of one of my personal favorites:

So, that is about it for the moment. I will try to do a rework this month, but...I am not sure if I will have time! We will save that for another post :)

Fool's Blood- Work in Progress pics, + NEW Gossamer Mermaid painting + etsy shop sale!

Hi hi!
So, making progress on this painting- I think I have decided to call her "Fool's Blood"...at least, that is the working title. Here she is with some color in her skin:

And here with some background colors:

At this point, all the base colors are in there, I just have many more layers and details to get in there...I am hoping to have her finished up by early March. Dang, that is such a long time for me!! Also, again, my apologies for the crumtastic photos :/

Now, onto some other things...
FIRST! I am having a Birthday Sale in my etsy shop- Darkling Treasures etsy shop turns FIVE!! Celebrate with me- here is a 25% off coupon code for you- UROCKROCK - use it at checkout, save monies! (lasts until March 1 at 12am EST)
Click HERE to visit my shop and check out all my goodies and fantasy art!!

A new small painting- "Gossamer(maid) has swum out of my head and onto canvas for you to see! She is a small 7" x 5" piece, in lots of flowing layers of acrylic paint...there are even two jellyfish watching her explore! This piece is a bit more abstract that I usually work, but I like her. She is currently available for adoption via eBay auction- check out the link below her picture for all the info:

Of course, I always have a HANDFUL of art listed for auction on eBay...You can see all the pieces on one page by clicking HERE!

I have been sketching up a small storm of pretty ladies and other random things...Not exactly sure what I am going to do with them all...I was considering some sort of "sketch adoption" which would also be a great way to get a custom Emily piece without me actually having to go full scale commission. Hmmm...hmmm...More thinking is to be done on this subject :)

So...I guess that's about all for now. I'll be back soon, hopefully with a finished painting ;)

OhMyGosh, HI! I'm BAAACK!

Hello!!
Well, it's been a LONG time since I've posted here. It's been a long time since I felt I had anything worth posting. I did take a break, a much longer break than I had anticipated. Not to say that I was not making art, I was simply not focused on fantasy art. I've been over here: Dorkling (a comic) posting a weekly comic, and creating cartoon art :)

Now, though...I'm BACK!! Kind of. I've decided to just take it SUPER SLOW this time around. Example: Currently, I am working on a brand new original painting, at a 'large for Emily' size of 11" x 14". The old Emily would have had her finished by now, or at least decently coated in layers of paint. The new, slow Emily is still working on skin shading...see:

SUPER SLOW!!! However, I am working on little pieces to whet your appetite in between large paintings. Yes, there will be more large paintings! What I have done is looked over my past works, and I have chosen a few pieces that I just ADORE and feel they deserve better representation. So, I will be reworking some of my old art this year! Here's a short list, and links to pictures can be found by clicking on the titles...imagine with me what they will end up looking like as big paintings!:

Bathtime
Buttons
Dutchess
Grave Robyn
Lucky #7
Over the Rainbow
Pris
Russette
Stilts

Now, maybe there is a specific piece you would like to see me rework that is not listed above? If so, you can send your suggestion to me...just CLICK HERE and write away! :) I should respond within a few days. At this point, I am merely taking suggestions- I am always interested in your opinions! But I will NOT promise to rework any particular suggestion...though, if you wanted to throw some money at me, that would change my mind on the matter a bit, I am quite sure ;)
Also, I feel I should note that I will be retiring the first edition image of these reworks once the new paintings are complete, so...If you would like prints or posters or anything of that nature, yanno...get on it. I'll give lots of warning, though. :)

So, that leads me into the subject of commissions. I am still not officially offering commissions at this time (unless you have a golden ticket...you know who you are, because I have already discussed this with you), however, I have been considering opening them up again soon. Prices will change, and other things here and there (size options, etc), but I have not forgotten about it AT ALL! I think about it A LOT, in fact!

As I mentioned above, I am working on some new ACEO illustrations, as well as some 5" x 7" paintings for the time in between big pieces, so you don't forget me LOL!! Here is a photo of some of the current 'small arts'-

Some of these are already listed for auction on eBay, and the rest will be listed within a week or two. You can see all my current art up for auction HERE!

Also, a silly side note- PLEASE forgive the crummy photos- I often snap shots with my iPod when I am working, and the camera kind of sucks, and the lighting kind of sucks. But, at least I am trying! Of course, completed artworks will be properly scanned in and color corrected if needed, all that fun stuff that I never talk about, but still have to do! If there is one thing I am super good at, it is working behind the scenes.

Okay, enough rambling!! I hope to see you all around here more often, perhaps once a week? Mmmm, better just make it twice a month for now, don't want to promise and not deliver ;) More frequent updates can be found on my Darkling Treasures Facebook page HERE, though!!
