Well, I feel like it's been a long time since I've updated- May got away from me with other projects! However, there is NEW art in this post, and I have been diligently working on my latest painting- a rework of "Pris"- and I do have a few work in progress photos for you to check out!
This post is mainly about some new happenings on the Darkling Treasures Website!
First of all, I have created a new gallery for all my 2013 works- It's so much easier for me to keep everything straight this way! There is a tab for it on the website main menu, but if you want to hop over there now and take a peek, here is the link:

Okay, ART TIME!! I've been doodling in between projects, as my hands tend to find trouble if they are not busy! This is a brand new nude illustration, in inks on bristol...and she's a gorgeous girl! I have titled her "The Wait"- she's even got a little Ralphie tattoo! "The Wait" is an 8.5" x 11" piece, and she is currently up for auction on eBay at the link below her picture:

Now, how about some work in progress pictures of my latest? This is a reworking of my original portrait illustration of my friend Pris! Lovely, beautiful, magical creature that she is, an inspiration and a light...Here's what I've got done so far:
She's slowly nearing completion, in between a few other pieces, and lots and lots more website work...which I just *love* soooo much (sarcasm). Of course, it will be easier to keep it more current now that I have forced myself to slow down with making tons of art!

Hello hello!
Ahh...April was kind of a whirlwind month for me, so...I got quiet again :\ Not to say I was not working, I just was not posting much. I go through these "bratty" phases where I just DO NOT want to market and be all social about my art, even listing can be a huge chore for me. I'd rather just be creating. I don't consider it a good thing when I get this way, and I am currently trying to figure a way to trick myself into being consistent in my 'business presence' while still feeling free to be myself- a sometimes cranky girl. *sigh* If I KNEW being an artist was this hard, I may have chosen the Peace Corps instead. (That was a joke! I know I am doing what it is I am supposed to!!)
Okay, so that ramble just got out of hand. Meant for that to go AFTER the art updates!! This is basically a post for rambling, thinking out loud, and updating you all on where the original paintings "Fool's Blood" and "Blue Dutchess" ended up, and what is coming up next!
I know you can't see me, but I just put my business pants on...Now let's get to it! Remember "Fool's Blood"? Well, she did not sell at auction (this happens ALL THE TIME with larger originals) so I have put her up at her full price in my darklingemily etsy shop!! The original is 11" x 14", acrylics on canvas panel, signed, sealed, wired- ready to hang as is or frame- and you can see all the other details and more photos here at the link below her picture:

In other art news, I have finished up the "Button Pusher" piece, except that...it needs a bit of adjusting on one section. I have been staring at it for a few days now, and you know...It just doesn't look quite right. So, once I fix her and scan her in, etc, I will have that post (with music, yay!). And I am still pondering on which rework to choose next. I keep leaning towards my gorgeous friend's portrait "Pris"- See her HERE- or maybe "Russette"- see her HERE- but I'm a bit afraid I might be overloading on mermaids. This leads me right into a ramble about how I don't really care to paint legs or feet, really, and my recent admission and struggles with this. That's part of the reason I chose to rework "Button Pusher" this past round. I have nothing against feet and legs, and I use mine all the time and am thankful they work and look okay...but as far as art goes...not my strong suit. So, what do I do? Avoid it like the plague. This has been a downfall of mine since the beginning of Emily. Trying to rectify that, starting with my artwork. Of course, both of those reworks I just mentioned above have no legs or feet. Gah!
This also brings up my other recent issue with my creative self...fantasy vs comic. I had set up this rework painting schedule at the beginning of 2013, knowing in my heart that where I really want to head is...into comic land. Cartoons make me happy, and they seem to spring from my hands without effort or too much thought most of the time. I find them to be a purer sort of expression, with a wider reach, a simpler footing in society, and...they look like candy but they aren't candy. You know I love things that look like candy but aren't actually candy. (I also love candy). I'm not saying I am leaving behind my mermaids, dragons, and sexy sexy ladies. But I just can't seem to market everything appropriately anymore. I may be a fool, but I never learned to juggle this much stuff. ;)I'm basically overwhelmed with art, and just getting more and more ideas every day. GAH!!! Perhaps I will give up and just be one of those really spacey, unorganized artist types. Whoa. Wait, that's an option! I hadn't even considered it until just this moment! :P

This is going to be a rather dragon-y post :) I thought I'd give the clowns a short break, though I am sure they will be back very very soon! I have a brand new dragon painting to share, as well as a new Facebook exclusive auction (also dragon-related!)

Most of my dragons are friendly creatures, though at times they can cause quite a bit of trouble, as dragons are prone to do. However, I happened to summon this angry little beastie the other day...I know he is not the most, uh, jovial creature, but perhaps you would consider adopting him just the same? This is an original 6" x 4" acrylic painting, titled "Shank". He is up for auction on eBay with a starting bid of just $15! Well...I have quite a bit of news, so let's just get to it, then...;)
On today's menu- dragons, a zombie sale, a feature, and some reminders...First, though, the art!
Okay, this first painting is one I painted earlier in the year, and had listed in my darklingemily etsy shop...Now, the original painting of "Dusk" is available for auction on eBay- starting bid is only $15! In doing the latest updates, I was realizing that my website does need a lot of touching up and reorganizing...so that will be happening over the next few months. Goodbye sleep, hello working to the bone! ahahahahahaha...and, as you can see, the delirium has already begun to set in...
But no worries, I will be fine. I'd rather be eyeball deep in projects than bored silly.

So, first, the new art! I have been working on and off on this piece for over a week now...It's taken me virtually forever to get her done! I'm not used to taking so long on one piece, but I think she came out splendidly...
"Psychopomps" is an original 5" x 7" illustration, in acrylic paints and inks, featuring a lovely angel winged fairy and a bunch of sparrows. The title is a greek word meaning "soul guide", and sparrows happen to be one of the specific animals that help guide peoples' souls from one plane of existence to another...

What else...Oh, yes! A new product from me, through my Zazzle shop! BINDERS!! YaY! As it is nearly time for school again, I thought I'd better hop on the binder band wagon and get some made up! I have a few options to choose from- two different zombie binders, and a dragon binder! And a reminder, as it is almost August 15th...and on the 15th, I will be holding my 15% off all orders sale, in my darklingemily etsy shop! As for projects, I am in the mode of getting my zombie compilation book formatted- there are a few final touches on illustrations that need to be completed, but...hopefully I will have this baby ready to rock out before Halloween! The original deadline (yes, I do set deadlines for myself LOL!) was end of August; however, I have been at work (at my "real" job) A LOT and haven't had all the time I thought I would...But, such is life. :) I am also working on a new series of ACEOs, which may not be released until my Circus & Side Show series is complete (which may actually be the end of this month)...But, this new series is based off of one of my recent ACEOs, "Too Tired to Fly"...Here is a pic of her:
Each ACEO in the new series will have a beautiful woman and a dragon. I have them all sketched out in pencil, waiting for ink and paint :) But, first I must complete my other series LOL!! Not to mention my jester series (which is ongoing) and my poor, neglected dragon zodiac series...:( So...I suppose I better get back to the grind!

I know, I just went a whole week without posting a blog. :\ Truth is, there really wan't much to write about...until now! LOL!
I have some new ACEO auctions listed on eBay (of course!) and also a special treat for all you comic lovers! But first, I will start with the ACEOs...
Continuing my Circus & Side Show series with "Carousel Horse"- an original ACEO illustration (2.5" x 3.5"- acrylic and inks)- the carousel is my favorite ride. I know it's not the most exciting thing, but it's the decadence of the carousel that I love more than the motion of it. Now that you have patiently waited for me to run down my list of new art, I will share with you something funny! Occasionally, I will get the urge to draw up a comic strip (or in this case, a block) of things I find funny...These comics are probably not universally funny, but they help me deal with the idiocy I encounter in daily life. Lately, the idiocy has been rampant, so I may be doing a bunch more of these...They are not the best art in the world, just quick little sketches, but I try to get the body language as close to reality as I can...It's great therapy for me, and reminds me how important having a good sense of humor is, and also that I am not a one trick pony. So, with all that being said, I give to you...a comic:
Any questions, input, comments are welcome. I would like to expand on this comic idea, and perhaps if I get enough of them drawn up, I will put them in a hand bound book for posterity (and also for listing in one of my etsy shops, which are sorely neglected of late)...

I've dropped my original art prices *a lot*- for instance, every 5" x 7" original painting is now marked at just $10 (from $32), and every 8" x 10" original painting is marked down to $25 (from $55)!! I am really roasting in this humidity, and it's rather difficult to think straight. My hair is a mess, there is sweat in my eye, and no amount of cold showers and swimming in the pond is going to make it okay for me to not have AC...I try to make myself feel better by telling myself that I am doing a bit of good by not having one, but the true fact is that I am cheap and would rather suffer than pay the extra $ on my electric bill. So, I just wish for a lot of rain instead, and try to think about other things.

Oh, how the time flies!
As you may have guessed, I have some new art tonight, as well as some new products in my Zazzle shop!

As usual, I am up to my eyeballs in work, but...I have gotten ALL of my illustrations 100% completed for the new zombie limericks! Woo!! Though I will never get into my head that it might be a good idea to create zombies in MODERATION, rather than working on them furiously in every spare minute I get for days at a time...It does make for some awfully strange dreams. LOL!!
Speaking of strange, I am plugging away at a bunch of ACEOs in my new circus/sideshow series. Many are still in the "pencil skritchings" stage, a few have been inked, and some even have a few layers of color. I couldn't decide which to start on first, so I am making both the circus and the sideshow, so, expect to see art ranging from carosel horses to the Fiji Mermaid, and all the weirdness in between very soon!

Two new ACEOs this week! The first of the two is titled "Little Jellyfish"- a purple haired mermaid watches two little cartoon jellyfish swim around...There's also a tiny starfish! Good news for all you zombie lovers who have been patiently waiting for something new on the living dead art front- I have listed two brand new Zombie Ink Blot art prints in my zombietoes etsy shop! I am also hard at work on the latest little books of zombie limericks; I am at the point of illustration and a bit of editing...I have not decided if I am going to release them as individual volumes, or if I will just go ahead and begn work on the compilation book...But I will keep you all posted. If you have a preference, do let me know, and I'm sure I will take it into consideration :)
Some other news to update- as some of you may already know, I have recently joined the MyTagArt artist roster, and through them I am now offering tubes of some of my art to make into siggy tags and other digital art! So, I have eighteen (YEAH!) new zombie limericks written, though I have yet to edit or illustrate them, so...it could be awhile before anyone reads them. I am also considering saving them for the compilation book, making that project their debut...However, like I said, (either way) it's a while off... This has nothing to do with anything other than my usual "biting off more than I can chew" attitude towards my creative endeavors. But this is how I seemingly never have any lapses in "inspiration"...There is always something in the work pile that will suit my mood, regardless of what that mood may be. Unfortunately, *tired* is not a mood, nor is it easy to motivate when one is sleepy...Like today LOL!! Though, after my writing frenzy, I did get started on a new (short) series of ACEOs. Since it is now approaching that disgustingly, deliriously warm and muggy weather, I have become nostalgic for the circus and the carnival...And that is what this latest series is based on! That's right, side show freaks a la Emily...You have been fairly warned. I'm not 100% sure when I will have any ready to post, but I will give the estimate of...End of this week, beginning of next. So, keep an eye out! Oh, yes, and my other, secret project is coming along slow and steady...But I'm still not telling what it is! Ha ha! Have a great week, all!

hmmm...what else...Oh! Well, I should inform you all that I have taken on a dinky part time job, on top of my first dinky part time job as a gardener, so now, magically, I am working full time on top of making art to share! This was a necessary evil, and I feel obliged to warn you that I may not be cranking out the art as fast as I was previously. I just didn't want anyone to worry about where I have gone to :) I think for now, my new art will be on the small side, mostly ACEOs and 5" x 7" illustrations, with a few larger paintings speckled in here and there when I have the time. Of course, there is always art up in both my darklingemily etsy shop and my zombietoes etsy shop to look at and purchase, and I will remain open to commissions as well. Also, this should not affect shipping in any way, and you will receive your orders as promptly as ever :)
With all the craziness, and also having a major side project in the works, I have yet to update my website galleries and news :( I am going to try *really* hard to get that done, as I have not updated since April! And the more time that goes by, the more art I have to add, making the process even more time consuming...Shame on me! Shame! At any rate, I had best be off :)
