Now, about this pretty mermaid girl- "Blue Dutchess" is an ORIGINAL 11" x 14" acrylic painting on canvas board. She is a multi-layered creation, swimming through some very strange water...Somewhere along the line, I decided that my work should be reflecting the messes that it often takes to get them made. I know, I know, it's just a freakin' mermaid, sheesh, why get all deep and philosophical about her? But there's always more under the surface. Ramble ramble ramble ;)

Dutchess Mermaid work in progress painting + updates!!

Hello!!
Didn't mean to drop off the face of the blogosphere, but...life happened. I do have some work in progress pictures of the "Dutchess" re-paint for you! Also, some MORE updates, yeesh...

So, this is the original illustration of "Dutchess":

There is ONE ACEO print of this version of "Dutchess" left, up for auction HERE on eBay! I will also be including an ACEO print of this version with the NEW PAINTING ;)
She was originally a little ACEO piece, but NOW she is becoming a large 11" x 14" painting!! Complete with my messy ink look!! A few progress shots for you:






As of this blog post, she is complete, and I should be listing her on eBay sometime in the next few days (I will have a seperate post for that!), barring any severe craziness (I may have just cursed myself there...)

Now, quick updates:

First, I have gone ahead and revamped my eBay listing template- Nothing intense, I just wanted it to look more like my website :) So, for those of you who have noticed the change, and were possibly wondering what was going on with that- yes, it is still lil ol me! We are not attaching ourselves to EBSQ anymore, which leads me into update #2:

I will be removing my art from EBSQ- it's a long and slightly poopy story, but let's just say I don't like to pay for services that are not provided, and we'll leave it at that. I will be moving over to deviantart.com- slowly...very slowly. I have decided, for reasons related to sanity, to retire MOST OF MY ART. I know, that's a LOT of art to retire. What I mean when I say "retire"- I mean, no more prints. I DO NOT MEAN relinquishing my copyrights. I do not mean throwing my art in the garbage (maybe a few pieces). I will be 'curating' the works of mine that I have chosen to NOT retire...things will be set up a bit differently. I want to organize them into "stories" or "similar voices" or...eh, it's hard to explain. So that will take a bit of thinking on my part (dang, I can't ever escape the thinking!!!) I will certainly keep you posted!!

The print set up for all my new pieces (beginning with "Fool's Blood") will also be a bit different...I've been pondering the limited edition vs open edition point. I just realized, I have probably bored you to tears with this. This is probably what I am thinking about when you are talking to me in person and I have a glazed look on my face...Or maybe I actually look like I am listening to you? I have very little idea what is going on outside my inner world, and my studio, lately. I hope that I have been decent enough to you that you would naturally have a touch of patience for me at this time :)

First up, I would like to introduce the latest proof that I am a huge dork- "Rock Lobster" is an original 7" x 5" fantasy painting, featuring a mermaid/lobster girl rocking out with her headphones on...complete with electric guitar fish swimming in the background. In other randomness, I've been trying to get a comic drawn up at least once a week (admittedly, I've been slacking on getting them FINISHED, but they are being penciled up regularly)...Anyhoo, these are just humorous and mostly stupid vignettes of moments in my life. Most of them happen for realz, some of them are just reactions that I have in my head. I work in a kitchen, so...they lean toward the perverse a lot of the time. Okay...go pee, grab a snack and get situated, cuz I'm gonna ramble at you for a minute! LOL! Firstly, I want to thank each and every one of you who have supported my art over the years. It is just...so...wonderful to be able to share these little worlds, stories, and pictures, and have them be received by open eyes and open hearts. Even all you critics, I love you too. All of you have helped me to become a better artist, and in turn, a better person, every day. There's no way I can ever truly express my gratitude. But I will always try. :) *ahem* sorry to get all mushy on ya...Full moon in Cancer (I think) coming up, and I am feelin it...Ugh!

Anyhoo, how about some shallow rambling? Ha ha, okay- so, remember last week when I was hemming and hawing about painting a mermaid on that long, thin canvas? Well, that's not happening at the moment. I flew off on another weird tangent, and am now working on a few new ladies (and some dudes!). I have a nude robot sketched out, and had her all ready to get onto canvas. Then I got another idea, and ANOTHER IDEA, and ANOTHER ONE...so...things are pretty much a carnival over here, working 3-4 pieces in the physical realm and about 4 more in my brain. I don't know what is wrong with me, making so much dang work for myself. On top of that, I seem to be in kind of a 'summer' mood, so I've been out and about more often, and not in the studio WORKING LIKE I SHOULD BE! Things are still getting accomplished, though not at the pace that I prefer to keep. But...all work and no play...you know? Not that I don't LOVE to paint, but...I've been told I'm only human, so that's what I'm rollin' with for now ;)

Siamese Twins ACEO, Dragon painting auction, and The Hat!

whoopsies!
I went a little longer than planned between posts here, I hope you can forgive me! So, I do not have a *ton* of art to share tonight...A new Circus & Side Show ACEO, an older dragon piece up for auction, and a brand new painting, which I am in love with...

I have to start with the new painting, because I am excited and don't want to wait LOL! This is the first piece in a new series! The new series is essentially inspired by the simple joys in life, like stupid toys (kazoos, pinwheels...) and fun stuff like hats and balloons. It would be more helpful if I had a name for this series, but it has not come to me yet (open for suggestions? sure)...I just know winter is right around the corner, and got an attack of "OMG, everything's going to be white and grey for the next six months" anxiety, and started plotting out images in color color color! But...enough blabbering, let me show you the first piece in the series- "The Hat"! She is an ORIGINAL acrylic painting, measuring 7" x 14" (long and thin) on a piece of particle board...I know, it's not the most professional base I have used, however I have a ton of them and wanted to try painting on one. I get them from work, when I have to cut up the 50 lb. blocks of cheddar cheese. Anyway..."The Hat" is available for purchase in my darklingemily etsy shop, at the link below the picture:

Good evening all!

So...I pretty much did eff-all this week. Okay, that is not true, but as far as art goes, I didn't make a whole heck of a lot. Been getting the gardens ready for winter, potting plants for indoors, working, filling orders, and trying not to fall asleep too early...Most nights I don't succeed at that last one.

I had a blast at the zombie pub crawl :) Got wasted and met a lot of zombies! I will have some pictures soon(ish) to share...But, seriously, this is why I don't go out all that often- because I have waaay too much fun, then it takes me two days or so to get back all my energy and bearings. So...I don't think I will be going out for Halloween. I will be working and then working some more.

I have listed some new grossness in my zombietoes etsy shop...A one of a kind, hand sculpted Deathbox, complete with two little zombie magnets inside! This Deathbox is the second one I've ever made. They are pseudo- necronomiconesque, with the stretched faces, real stitching, and subtle painted accents...totally disgusting. I love them! Yes, just a short post tonight. I spent a solid 5 hours on a commission today, from start to finish, and I am kinda worn out and want to veg out in front of the tv and not think. Earlier today I was thinking about going through some of my supplies and selling some things as destash through my etsy shop, but I will have to go through them before I even know what I can part with. I think I will be getting myself deep into one of my larger projects soon, and I am preparing for that by making a whole bunch of ACEOs to have on hand for listing. Trying to get as downsized, prepared, and organized with things to do before winter really hits, and I am left scrambling, lost, and trapped in my studio....Which is really not the worst place to be. ;) But, now, I am off to relax! Set of TWO mixed media fairy ACEOs

So, details are at the above link, but just for funzies, let me try to sell you...;) I had a short spell of mixed media madness last week, and made a few fantasy collage ACEOs. This is a set of TWO original fairy ACEOs, in my signature mixed media style...something I have not done in awhile! I do not foresee making a ton of these little treasures this year, so if you have wanted one, now is a good time! I used to make these all the time, but at this juncture in my "art life" I am trying out other things. But...lots of texture, color, depth, and detail in these tiny worlds! I promise, if you like fantasy art at all, these will not disappoint you. :)


And...before I go back to my desk to finish my latest painting (to see work in progress pics of it, just click HERE, and scroll down to the bottom of the page for the newest!)...The two year anniversary of my zombietoes etsy shop is next month/aka tomorrow/aka October, and I am planning a shop-wide sale to celebrate!
