Still on a clown kick, I am apologizing to anyone who has an issue with this. I can't help myself, I must do as the muses tell me. The latest clown illustration is titled "Raining Parade". I don't think this one needs too much explanation, really, it's more of a "how does this make you feel" piece. Kay, so it's a new year. I haz bean thinkin' lots about things and stuff. Not just now, but for a long time...I've been plotting things, see? I am still in plotting mode, so I do not want to really get into details. But I do want to mention some things that will be changing a little bit in the near future...don't worry, change is good! :)
For one thing, I will be raising my prices a teesy eensy bit. Mostly on the originals, because I am grossly undercharging. I am not quite sure when the price change will go into effect, but I will let you know when it gets close. Also, when I do open commissions again, those prices will be going up. Not a lot, just a little :) Trying to be a tad more organized and a tad less hard on myself, so I am setting up a reduced creation/listing schedule for originals- I will have between 4 and 8 new pieces a month. This may sound like a lot to some of you, but for me it is next to nothing; it does frighten me a bit to scale back this much. But I need to make time to get these other things moving. Not to mention my poor, neglected website! Well, seemingly neglected, I have been working on it off and on for the past few months (shame!) and eventually will unveil the new look :) I think mostly what is holding me up is writing a new and halfway decent artist statement. I change my mind and my art so frequently, it just seems futile to try to harness my life and my passion in so many words. Maybe I should just write that. Maybe it's too 'frou-frou-I'm-an-artiste-I-can-do-whatever-I-so-please'...gah! see what I mean? I need halp. I think I will also cease ramble now.

Mermaid time! woo Hoo! I feel like it's been awhile since I've created a proper mermaid, and awhile since I've worked in an unfamiliar medium, so I thought I'd be all crazy and do both at once hah hah! I have created this mermaid- "Fynn", as I have named her- on a small panel of wood (about 2.75" x 7.25"), using a heated wand to burn her into the wood! This form of, uh, art, is called pyrography. I then gave her a light wash of blue for her skin, and darker blue for the background...and she is complete! This was just a practice piece, but! Mmmm...how do you feel about my recently resurrected love of clowns? Is it working for you? Because I gotta say, it's awfully cathartic for me. I am so mentally frazzled lately, and I think it's because I have been very lax in my paperwork and online maintenance duties...the boss part of me has apparently gone out of town, and I don't know when she'll come back...so until then, I am just making piles and lists and mental notes...Even when I am not with the program, I still try to stay a little organized. Or maybe I am just fooling myself...only time will tell! We should know by next week LOL!

Okay, on to rambling. I am sure some of you have noticed that I have been slowing WAY down in production over the last few months. I know I have mentioned it before. Being an artist is basically like going through one phase after another, and reveling in that phase as much as possible, gleaning every ounce of knowledge and life from it, every drop of color...once you get all that, the cycle clicks over and there is a new phase to explore. That's how it has always been for me, anyhow. Not to say that it is all grand and fabulous, but I try to experience "bad things" in stride with the "good things"- and quotations because nothing is as it seems, really. Well, I think I have just entered some new and bizarre phase in my art, and thus in my life. I am unfamiliar with the landscape and will need time to get my bearings. Knowing myself as well as I do, I have decided to finally slow down a bit. Well, kind of, in a way. I guess it's more like going rogue-hermit to work on some more involved projects. Of course there will still be art, though, no worries! I just can't promise any sort of consistency in creating new art for now. Also, commissions are officially CLOSED until next year sometime, I have not decided when exactly. I have to get my poor website in order- it is half remodeled and I've put it off for far too long now...But anyway, that's me thinking out loud. Or thinking via keyboard.
